Pregnancy 🤞

Hello I haven’t been on for quite a while but could definitely use some advice.

Me and my husband are hoping to become pregnant 😁 after been told numerous times by different doctors never again!!

We already have a daughter who is now 6 and is believed to be the reason I got lupus! Although now a lot of my pregnancy complications with my daughter are answered I didn’t get diagnosed with lupus until her 1st birthday.

We have had meetings at the maternity hospital with my VERY trusted rheumatology doctors and maternity team. I am now out the 12 week window of certain drugs been stopped (mycofenalate). So can start trying!!!

My biggest fear is now that I can’t get pregnant 😰 I’ve had so many drugs and infusions over the last 5 years surely they must have had effect on my fertility??

Would love to hear others experience with this

Thanks in advance

I was too was diagnosed with Lupus after pregnancy, 2 years after my first daughter..I then got pregnant when my daughter was 3 and had another the following year after that..it was a big toll on my body I had to keep going to hospital for infusions and my newborns were checked for Lupus as soon as they were born..thank God they didn't have it.... no one can advise you ..its your decision the doctors advised me at the time not to get pregnant..I have 3 beautiful daughters aged 16, 12 and 11...you must understand it's a massive strain on your body xx

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I have spent hours searching the internet about lupus and pregnancy and understand the risks. But I think I have to at least give it a try.

My doctors now are happy for me to try but they have also given me information/advise about possible complications and also worsting of disease for me.

Did you find it easy to fall pregnant each time??or did you need some help with fertility?

Can I please ask you what your infusions while pregnant where for?xx

Low white blood count, I had to have multiple infusions throughout both pregnancies, I got pregnant very quickly without fertility treatment I was 21 and 22 at the time, but It was very draining.

I'm 35 now and know my body can't handle any more, only you can decide....I hope whatever you decide is right for you xx

Hi Sarahjj87 ,

I'm really glad to hear that you've been getting advice and support from your rheumatology team and I'd like to wish you all the best of luck and hopefully a healthy and happy pregnancy!

Fertility isn't commonly affected in people with lupus. There is only one treatment used in lupus that I am aware of which has a known risk to fertility and that is cyclophosphamide. Usually the prescribing consultant will discuss this risk before using this medication.

If you want more information about lupus and pregnancy, we have a booklet that you can read online at lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u... (I can also send a physical copy if you would like - just send me a private message or email paul@lupusuk.org.uk with your name and address).
