Sepsis

Hi, I have just come out of hospital following sepsis, secondary to pyelonephritis. I take Azathiaprine amongst other things. I didn’t have any warning signs, just extreme collapse over a few hours. I’m on the mend but am as fatigued as anything. Has any of you experienced this?

Kidney pyelonephritis. No lower uti, just ‘bang’ straight for the kidney

Hello Rubylu,

I had a renal infection myself. I know the instinct is to take less immuno - suppression when this happens - but Lupus cells can be attracted to infections. Its a tricky double whammy. Its of the utmost importance that you take enough antibiotics to ensure all infection is gone - as in 'completely' disappeared - utterly no trace left.

Make sure you have thorough long term follow up regarding you're kidneys just to double check that the Lupus cells haven't visited the area.

Get the guidance of a good Lupus specialist as follow up to this event to ensure good balance of immuno - suppression and monitoring.
