Gastroparesis question

Has anyone had normal gastroscope but still has gastroparesis? I have all the symptoms for gastroparesis and suffer constantly. Had gastroscope under general anaesthetic and they said all looked normal and I wondered if it would under a general if it was gastroparesis as could they see the valves working properly(as that was suspected issue?)? I've had slow transit study that said definite slow transit. I'm wondering if there's other tests that could diagnose it?? Thanks in advance

Hi flowflow,

The only real way - and the gold standard test - to diagnosed gastroparesis is via a gastric emptying scan. You eat a low residue food, it’s often cereal or mashed potato mixed with a radioactive isotope and they scan you over a period of hours. Some doctors use the marker test where you swallow lots of pills and they X-ray you a few days later to see where they are.

If you had the scope under general, you would have been fasting, so it may have given a false impression. I had a gastroscopy and colonoscopy at the same time. The colonoscopy prep made me vomit over and over, so my stomach was empty by the time I had my scope but they diagnosed based on symptoms. I had the GES at a later date which confirmed delayed emptying.

Are you under a good gastro?

Take care.
