Losing faith

Due to all my issues last year and beginning of this year I was overdue for my Rheumatology appointment so getting my ducks in a row I made one.

Went to see him this week and frankly wish I hadn’t bothered.

Can’t explain it but he was almost in a distracted mood. Wasn’t listening to what I was saying, forgot to order blood works and then ended the conversation by saying he thinks I should halve my drugs dose when I’d already told him how I was feeling.

I left there in a daze thinking I’d just been on candid camera or in parallel universe.

Feel so deflated and confused and not seeing the point of the hospital at this point.

Can you change your specialist or are you stuck with them. I’m at NDDH and see DR ****** but there is a DR Kyle and wasn’t sure if he is bit more clued in.

Would appreciate thoughts and advice about possibly changing Dr’s.

Hope you’re all having a good day xx

Yes, you are entitled to ask to change drs. You may need to get the gp to refer u unless the secretary can transfer u onto the other drs list (I’m not 100% sure)

Thanks Sara. Just need to find out what the procedure is for changing over Specialists. Hopefully be like changing GP’s as that’s fairly straightforward 😊

I did the same in 2012. I merely wrote an email to the rheumatology dept secretary saying that I would like to change from Dr L's list to Dr G's and offered no explanation. Let's face it, the only reason to change is that you're not happy with your current doctor so it's self explanatory. I received a letter cancelling my existing appt and confirming my new one with the chosen rheumy. Nothing more has ever been said.

Thank you Clare. Builds hope I can resolve this quickly.

Was the change good for you?

It will be fine.

Initially it was great but my new personable, dynamic rheumy can be forgetful, erratic, unreliable and incorrect - my previous one was disinterested and detached but was consistent. Frying pans and fires spring to mind!!!
