Enterococcus gallinarum is the named villain... could it be possible that this nightmare of having lupus is just a vaccine and antbiotic away??
Any thoughts?

Thanks for these links! VERY INTERESTING!
Immunology has had me on daily antibiotics for several years now due to bone marrow dysfunction (hypogammaglobulinaemia/CVID...which arose way before treatment with immunosuppressants). For sure, both these antibiotics AND my daily lupus meds are helping me A LOT. But i definitely need all these meds. Have my 6 monthly immunology appt soon...will ask about Enterococcus gallinarum & this research

Very interesting 1sam - oddly I find that antibiotics have, in the past, helped with my neuropathy in a way that nothing else ever has.
I’m presently on one, Co-trimoxazol, for a kidney infection, and since starting it 4 days ago my night waking tremors have eased up, as has my dizziness and vertigo. My gastroenterologist said that the gut is always involved in autoimmune diseases.
Well, now that you mentioned it I remember that my first "official" lupus fiare was confused with some infection. Antibiotics made me feel better but when the 10 days treatment stooped, fever and pain returned.
I'm happy that you are feeling better now I hope your symptoms stay eased.

Fascinating. I'm on a diet to 'heal my gut' though its slow going. I feel I should take more probiotics etc. But if they could just target the culprit that would be an amazing breakthrough.
Amazing! agree.
Please let us know how your diet is going... I'm constantly looking for new tips.

There are lots of different versions: going purely plant based, Paleo, AIP. Often it's about what makes us feel better. What people agree on is no processed foods, low carb if you are on steroids, no gluten and then see if there's anything else you may be sensitive to (Lupus makes us sensitive, which complicates things!).
My diet, which is broadly Paleo, is going ok. After an initial lowering of antibodies, nothing much has happened since. I think my problem is different though.
Oh, there is an specific test for enteroccoccus ? Interesting... which Dr orders them? GP, rheumy...?
Thanks dear
I think there has to be a correlation between a health immune system and a health gut as the digestive system spends a lot of time excreting antibodies from the gut lining. Its just how the two interact in autoimmune conditions and why this particular bacteria is so important. Surely it cant be to blame for all the auto immune conditions. But it could be a start to understanding a trigger at least.
