Please help and hear me out! , I’m new here so I don’t know where to start ... I’m really scared and just convinced myself that I have lupus because I’ve been having blood in the urine for about 3 years now , it’s not blood where you can see but it’s there when you test it , every time I go to the doctors they said theirs a small trace of blood in the urine , I get so hot and my heart races so fast every time I think of it , I have bad anxiety so it doesn’t really help . I don’t know who to turn too because the doctors think I’m crazy , but my family doctor finally got me to go see an bladder specialist and I got a camera in the bladder witch came out normal & now this doctor told me to go see a kidney doctor . So in a few months I get to go see him , but I’ve been just feeling so anxious and having bad anxiety and staying up late nights really making my self sick because of these thoughts . I have a toddler as well and it makes me feel like a bad mother because of these thoughts and bad anxiety, this blood in the urine ( hematuria) is really diving me crazy 😥.... please can anyone let me know what are your symptoms of lupus... did you have blood in the urine with small traces of blood?

Hi Briannafaye1 ,

There are many possible causes of traces of blood in the urine including infections or kidney stones. Is there a reason that you suspect lupus as a possible cause? Have you been experiencing other symptoms too?

I hope that your referral to the kidney specialist will reveal some answers and help to put your mind at ease. It is worth bearing in mind that if this is a symptom of lupus, in the vast majority of cases kidney problems can be well managed with treatment.

Regarding your anxiety; have you discussed this with your GP to see whether they can offer any additional support such as treatment or a referral to counselling/psychotherapy?

Sorry I as well forgot to say that I had a CT done and no kidney stones , and checked for an infection and no bacteria was found , everything was normal , I’m always tired & headaches & I get these kidney like spazz pain , or even tummy spazz like a sharp cramp pain

The not knowing is scarier than the diagnosis. I too am very anxious. Unfortunately anxiety is one of the triggers that gets lupus going. Try and relax and know that there are medications that can make you feel better for the most part. Keep us posted

I understand totally that you need answers but worrying yourself to death over the 'what ifs' will just make anything worse. There are many causes of hematuria - it's not something I have ever experienced in my nearly 30 years of lupus. Lupus is also very treatable - many achieve good control and some even go into remission. It sounds as though your anxiety has taken a good hold but try to take back control and concentrate on enjoying your toddler. Xxx

To find traces of blood in a urine specimen is not unusual. Perhaps, more importantly, consider the reason you are having samples of urine tested repeatedly?

If you feel prone to recurring UTI, why not chat to pharmacist? Sometimes, just taking a course of cranberry supplements, may clean the urinary tract out.

I once pee'd pure blood. It came on spontaneously, as I dressed the Christmas tree, I had one sharp pain, low abdomen, urge to urinate.... I phoned 111, was seen by Out of Hours GP, given antibiotics, for UTI. I then took a month supply of cranberry tablets, (you can also use juice), and no further urinary problem for years, and never pee'd blood since.

Another preventative measure is to drink 1.5-2litres water a day.

Please don't fret, enjoy your child. Know that traces of blood in the urine are usually normal.

Thank you for the feedback , I thought it was a UTI all these times but no bacteria was found 😢 but I’ll drink some of that juice and see if it works! Thank you!
