Hi, I have been taking pregablin for around 4 months now and although my GP keeps upping my dose I haven't had any benefit from it at all. Before that I was on gabapentin and that didn't help either so I was weened off them. I don't understand why its not helping with the pain and wondered if anyone felt the same? TIA x

I am the same as you. I have a number of issues that cause me intense pain but NOTHING helps at all. Years ago I was given tramadol which worked like a dream for a while but then the dose had to keep being increased until I got worried abiut the amount I had to take so weaned myself off and ince then NOT ONE pain killer works for me

Hi Mandie, I was also on Tramadol and weaned myself off it last year as it stopped having effect. I think we are similar in that nothing works with pain except co-codamol (at the moment anyway) lol My body gets too used to meds so they have a short shelf life x

Very true. Sadly I cant take co codamol it makes me sick and cnt have any anti inflammtories. I am ordering CBD oil this week as friends of mine who also have Lupus use it and say it really helps 🤞

Thats a shame as I find it does help with me anyway. I bought some CBD oil but I didn't like the taste so I'm going to look into vaping :-)

Gabapentin and pregabalin are used for "nerve pain" - if it isn't "nerve pain" it won't help.

There is also a problem that pain perception becomes "learned" - even if the pain is relieved in some way the brain doesn't register that. That doesn't mean it is "all in your mind" - it is the nerves expecting there to be pain signals.

Perhaps a referral to a pain specialist might help?

Thanks for your reply, I have a rheumatology appointment soon so I will bring it up with him x

No point in taking anything that doesn't help, especially when you have to wean yourself off it. My year with a pain management service helped enormously with the " perception of pain" . Not once was it implied it was in my head, and I still need BuTrans patches, but it did help with managing pain. Fortunately my ⭐️GP is very understanding of pain and insists that it is necessary to control it for any quality of life.

Those are my thoughts exactly, I'm also on the list for Pain Management, am glad that it has helped you x

I’m doing pain management at the moment and it is so worth doing. The classes I have attended have changed my ways of thinking and I’m starting to put me 1st xx

Hi Suzannejayne. I have also gone round the merry go round of medication. I too had been on gabapentin and nothing then went onto pregabilan , I went up to 1800mg a day and felt nothing except a bad side effect of making me completely wired up! The only thing that took my pain away was pred which worked for 5 weeks then pain came back. Now I'm on on a high dose of tarpentadol as they are still trying to figure out how to treat me. I got this form my pain management clinic. This does work but have been told it's a horrible drug! I don't care right now as its giving me pain relief for the first time. I have lupus of the CNS with a high chord lesion on my spinal chord. Awaiting results from a lumbar puncture and sensory tests. You are not alone so hang in there. There are amazing people on here for support. There will be a pain relief out there for you but sadly it takes time to try a new drug , have it in your system for it to work, to then ween off to then try a new one. Keep on at the Dr. I went practically every other day. Sending healthy happy thoughts. Xx

Hi ange726, thanks for your reply. I'm glad you have found some medication that helps you, I feel the same, if I find something that works I will take it regardless as nothing can compare to being in so much pain everyday. I have found this site very supportive although I've yet to be diagnosed its such a friendly place to ask questions and advice. p.s I am usually at my GP's at least once a week :-) take care xx
