Hello, I'm kelly and I got diagnosed in Feb 2012, I had a lot of problems previous and the vitiligo society told me to ask for an ANA full body profile, I did and it came back that I had lupus, I've been seeing a rhumy since then and never really got much from them. Earlier this week I went to my GP as the pain was horrendous and I could barely walk, so so tired and lost time off work, she could see how I was and sent me straight for bloods and got in touch with my consultant. I've not long got back from the appointment and he has basically said I've got chronic pain and the bloods are showing a negative read for lupus??? I asked how that was possible and he just said I should be happy that I havent got it no more but then went on to say I could still have it but with a negative read which is rare...I'm so confused and need to know if I have it or not because if I don't then what the hell is going on? Can you get diagnosed with lupus and then it go away?

Hi Kelly1977,
I am sorry to hear that you have been feeling poorly and are not satisfied with your rheumatologist, have you considered requesting a referral for a second opinion?
Extreme fatigue is one of the most common symptoms of lupus and reportedly affects almost 90% of people with this autoimmune disorder. Last year we published a blog article on ‘Managing Fatigue’ containing helpful tips and information which you can read here: lupusuk.org.uk/managing-fat... .
An ANA test gives an indication on whether a person may or may not have an autoimmune condition. It does not provide sufficient evidence to confirm a diagnosis of lupus. Further testing would be required to accurately identify the cause of your symptoms. We published a factsheet called LUPUS: The symptoms and Diagnosis which you can access here: lupusuk.org.uk/wp-content/u... .
Please keep us updated, wishing you all the best.
