I was diagnosed almost 3 weeks ago. I think I may have been misdiagnosed for the past 5 years. I have been told I have gout because of my swollen feet. Most recently my feet, ankles, knees, and hands swelled at the same time. My doctor continued to say gout although my uric acid levels were great. I demanded a referral to a rheumatologist and that's when I received my diagnosis. I love reading the posts and advice. There is so much love and empathy here.

Welcome to the Forum, bet your lupus diagnosis has come as a bit of a shock!. I hope the Rheumy has started you on treatment and your joints improve soon. Keep us posted.
I hope the plaque nil is helping. I'm the only one in my family to have this illness!. I wonder how we got so lucky!. Cheers Misty.
Hi and welcome. I am not yet officially rediagnosed with Lupus/ Sjogren's rather than RA but, as you observe, this is a great and supportive community.
Interesting about gout. I have only had my uric acid level checked out once last year. I requested this because my late dad had severe gout and my finger swellings remind me of his toes. The result showed high levels so I showed my GP my fingers and asked if I might have gout but he was adamant that this was arthritis and said my level wasn't very high. Baffled because it was well above range anyway!
Thanks. I know gout is terribly painful and my joints aren't more than achy, stiff and sore plus my ANA is clear positive now and don't think gout is for me thank goodness. It just seemed ironic that my gp discounted gout for me despite a positive uric acid result whereas yours insisted on it wrongly!
I believe gout and raised red blood cell count, as I have, can be a sign of iron overload - also of PV (sticky blood disease - can't spell it!) - a type of cancer so if I don't get a definitive diagnosis of Lupus this time then will ask about this.
Best of luck with Lupus treatments - they work very well fur many people. Twitchy
