Sjogrens and cataracts ?

I have SLE and Sjorgens, and have also developed  a cataract in my right eye.  Does anyone know if there are any problems with the Sjorgens if I  have the cataract dealt with??    I don't want to encourage the Sjorgens to get worse, but  it would be good to have better vision in that eye.

I'll be interested to hear if anyone has any experience of this. I've had eye problems for years. Regular bouts of uveitis and steroid drops on repeat prescription. I've lost count of how many flares I've had over the years. I have a useless rheumy who just focuses on my joints (these are the least of my symptoms but he's not interested in that). My GP thinks he should have tested for Sjogrens but as he hasn't done this the GP has prescribed eye drops, eye cream and mouth spray. All I can say is I have the symptoms of it and my GP is treating me for it.

Unfortunately I've developed cataracts (ophthalmologist says possibly because of the uveitis/steroids) and I've been referred for cataract surgery. I really don't have much choice but have the ops. I'm severely shortsighted anyway (eye prescription of -10) so adding the cataracts to this, I'm now at the point where contact lenses or glasses can't correct my vision enough for night driving and it isn't going to get better. My first cataract op is in 4 weeks time.

Has any of you wonderful bunch out there been down this road?

Thanks for replying.  It's all very frustrating isn't it.  I'm off to see the ophthalmologist next week and will see what he has to say.    Guess we need to stay positive and hope all goes well.

Hi KeepRinging,

I'm afraid I don't have an answer to this question for you. You may wish to contact the British Sjogren's Syndrome Association (BSSA) to see if they have any relevant information - bssa.uk.net/

Many thanks for your reply.  I am golng to see the Ophthalmologist on Wednesday so I'll see what he advises.  The nature of Lupus is such that we all react differently --- what suits one doesn't suit another!   I'll have a look at SS too.

     Many thanks
