Hip replacement failing after 15 years ?
Hello. I too have hip issue. Was told. I may need a hip replacement. Can not stand up 100% straight and so painful. I've had 2 back. Surgs whhr he put cement n. 7,5 & 4 and I still have 7 more fractures that includes the sciatic nerve.
Your doctor can order xrays or a cat scan see if there are any issues. I would mention it soon as possible because there's other ways to deal with it if there are issues before it gets to the point of surgery.
Hi. A hip replacement usually lasts about ten years so it probably is showing wear and tear. You should really visit your gp. He can than do the xray and refer you back to orthopaedic surgeon. Good luck. X
If it could be a failing prosthesis it is the orthopaedic surgeon who needs to decide - it is a completely different situation to when the damage has been done prior to the initial hip replacement when an x-ray shows the damage to the cartilage. If the hip prosthesis is failing because it is loosening then an x-ray will show it. I'm not sure about the other causes. But loosening can happen after about 5-10 years so a 15-year-old hip has done pretty well although some do last even longer.
It is possible the changes in gait due to the knee replacement have triggered the hip problem.
