I been on hydrochloquine 200mg OAD when I was pregnant and have been taking it during pregnancy.my baby is now 7 month and I'm still breastfeeding. Iv been told my pharmacist how hydrochloquine can be toxic for infant if I'm breastfeeding. I'm really worried now..anyone else breastfeeding with hydrochloquine? Thanks in advance

Hi,I've been on HQ 200mg twice a day for several years. When pregnant my gp and hospital consultant reassured me it is safe and for when I breastfeed. I trust them ,consultant is an expert in sle. If you are really worried speak to your gp who could find out extra info.

I was on hydroxy 200 mg twice a day also. My rheumatologist swapped me onto that when I fell pregnant as it was the safer of the drugs. Obviously no drugs would be better but I have a very happy, healthy and active 1 1/2 year old so all seems fine so far.

One of the benefits of hydroxychloroquine is that it is safe for yourself and your baby throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. You can read more about hydroxychloroquine and other anti-malarials in our factsheet 'LUPUS: The Symptoms and Diagnosis' which can be found here: lupusuk.org.uk/publications. We've also got a booklet called 'LUPUS: A Guide to Pregnancy', which has information in it about breastfeeding.
