Exercise
Hi Biddy
My advice would be to have exercises from a physio who would understand your health problems and tailor them accordingly!. X
Hi I suffer from RA and Small Fibre Neuropathy. I use a Nintendo Wii Fit Plus and it keeps me right - I jog on the spot the carpet in our living room and do yoga stretches and muscle work every day for about 45 minutes. I also try to walk the dogs everyday for 30 minutes and find that exercise helps keep my circulation going so that the numbness and nerve pain in both hands and feet and legs and arms are always at their worst when I'm still for any length of time - terrible at night.
I've only just been diagnosed with the SFN by a neurologist and await tests to see if they can pin down the cause, whether immune mediated or idiopathic so I don't think my GP will refer me back to the physio until more is known. But I just plow on with the exercises that seem to have kept my RA at bay along with the drugs.
I can't walk far. The pains get worse on exertion. I work part time and the rest I have to rest
Well Biddy you did ask about exercise so I'm assuming you want to try. I spend a lot of time in bed resting too these days too when I'm not working. When I exercise I find my feet are often so numb that I can barely feel where I'm putting them and then afterwards they burn. But I do know that if I stop doing this daily exercise I become much more ill and also very depressed.
My husband works in an a home for the elderly and they have a Nintendo Wii fit which some residents use. You can tailor your exercise to your own capabilities this way - the yoga ones are especially good for this as they range from very simple to advanced and you can do it in the privacy of the own home too.
I walk, do the garden and play table tennis because I get board of exercising for the sake of it. They say walking is one of the best forms of exercise, but I try to keep away from traffic fumes and go to healthy places like the beach or countryside. I have to be careful with gardening as I can over do it; wanting to get too much done in a session. Table tennis is a good way of exercises and enjoying yourself at the same time. I have made friends there and we don't play all the time, but take in turns, so it allows for recovery between.
