I saw my consultant rheumy to discuss my mri of d knee dat i had last week. He said the bone in my knee is inflammed and suggest i get a crutshes or walking stick to support the left knee. He said if i cld reduce walking but for the fast 2 and half years i have been on steriods and for the past 4weeks i was 40mg and gradually reducing it to 5mg every week. I weigh 110 and it is effecting me. I have hot flushed my right knee is also swollen and feels like it is filled witj fluid. My chest hurts. I am waiting for my gp to refer me to the social services who will probably get the crotches. I hope dis happens soon cos my knee is terible but my worries is dat my right knee gives way and i loose balance and fall over. The pain is unimaginable. My sore fingers are calmer with the high dose of steriod my drs i waiting for funding for rhetoximab. My consultant said i might come into hospital for an infusion after he discusses with another consultant. Cant do cardio exercise cos my knee but am trying to c if i cld get free swimming in the gym cos i have been unable to go back to work with my unpredictable flareups. Thanks for reading this is the only place apart from God house that i cld show how vulnerable this illness has made me.

Sorry that you are suffering. I have a diagnosis of RA with add ons rather than Lupus but many friends with RA get the knee swelling you describe. Some take Rituximab for their RA to very good effect also so I hope you get the funding. What I wonder is whether your knee may have synovial fluid trapped as this does sound like RA to me. They have their knees drained of the fluid and this provides great relief. I think this is usually done by a rheumatologist or perhaps a rheunatology nurse. My knees have been terribly painful in the past and last night I woke to excruciating pain in my left knee - could barely walk next door to the bathroom but this morning both knees are just stiff and achy. I think I do have arthritis in my left knee but have never had this confirmed by X-ray or mri. I can sympathise a lot. i hope the crutches help you.

You really need to see a specialist with knee replacement. I suffered for many years with same issues, had a arthroscopic procedure made it worse, found the best knee replacement surgeon and had my knee replaced. He told me it was one of the worst he's seen, he had done hundreds of replacements. Six months after that surgery I had the other knee replaced. Well worth it, consider this option, it will save you many years of severe pain. Steroids increase weight and that increases pressure on your knees. Good luck!

Hi Ideaslike, I agree with Twitchytoes that your knee could have the fluid drained from it and could add that maybe a steroid injection could help with the pain and inflammation. Maybe something you could ask?. I'm sorry your having a tough time with it.X
