Has anyone had problems with their eyes? I am 46 and have a cataract!
hi
I have had cataracts in both eyes. They grow quite rapidly if you are taking steroids.
Oh my the exact same thing is happening to me. They say I have cataracts growing, have been for awhile now but recently I've become very sensitive to light and my eyes water. I'm having to wear sunglasses a lot at the moment even at work. Trying to get an appointment to see my doctor but can't get one until 23rd going to try for an emergency one on Monday if I don't sleep through the alarm lol.
I had shingles once in my left eye so there is a part of me worrying in case that comes back too
Hi, Yes I have had cataracts removed in both eyes about three years ago, I am now nearly 67. My eyes have always been sensitive to light since I caught measles a a small child (No vaccine then). I also have Low Glaucoma but is not bad enough to treat. I have had 'dry eye' for over 10 years but that is kept in trim with drops during the day and gel at night. See your Optician he will refer you to an eye clinic, but your doctor can prescribe the drops and gel.
Thanks all, I have never had to take steroids, but I seem to have had both dry eye and occasionally weeping eyes, the upside is, when both are done my glasses prescription will be so much milder
My optician spotted a cataract..must be 5 years ago but he said it would be a long while before it needed any surgery. I'm 67
Hi yes I have been a lupie for nearly twenty years and had a few problems with my eyes over this time, my optician keeps a close eye on me and sees me annually insteady of the normal two yearly checks that most people my age get on the NHS. Mainly because I am on steroids. I do suffer from dry eyes and am frequently prescribed Viscotears which help a lot, they are gel tears that make my eyes much more comfortable and less itchy.
I am on steroids and the optician is always very on the ball checking for cateracts and told me to phone and make an urgent appointment if I get any problems with my sight.
Good luck I hope that yours are sorted soon

Hi yes i have had lupus for 10 years and have been on steroids since diagnosis i am 50 and i have just been told by my optician that i have cataracts from the steroids but they are not bad enough for surgery yet
i have had two removed but i was 60 ish There was no connection ever mentioned about SLE but i had regular eye checks for some time and have never been happy with the removal of the cataract in my left eye Still feel there is a slight decrease in vision compared to the right eye
I also had rapidly growing ones and was on a high dose of steroids when they occurred
Hi. Yes I am 50 and have cataracts in one eye. My insurance company won't cover the surgery because they say I am not old enough so it's considered cosmetic. I'm really worried that I won't be able to renew my drivers license my eyes are spur sensitive to sun and fluorescents. My retina in the same eye has problems. The dr didn't mention steroids but did decrease my Plaquanil It's scary not seeing out of one eye.
