Hi folks just wanted to ask a question, the school that I work in has had a case of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease.

Hiya, I don't know anything about this personally and I'm certainly no expert but I've just done a few searches and learnt that HF&M usually occurs within children, but like many illnesses those with lupus are more susceptible - again more so if taking immuno suppressants. The symptoms seem to be pretty easy to identify including rashes, general feeling of unwell, sores etc...

Sites I looked on state if those with SLE develop hand foot and mouth they should be monitored by GP to ensure things don't get more serious.

You mention 'a' case, which is obviously not as worrying as a whole bout of it, but is does seem that cleanliness and hygiene are the way to prevent the virus from spreading, I assume that due to your health you take precautions with handwash/steriliser anyhow, so I would suggest being continuing this but keeping an extra look out for any new symptoms.

Thank you for this information. I do take quite good care with cleanliness, I think my main concern was that most of the time I feel quite unwell anyway, especially with a continuous chest infections and all my aches and pains, how would I know if I developed HF&M. Maybe this is a Q for my GP. Anyway thanks again. Take care. X

HF&M is usually typyfied by blisters on the palms of the hands,soles of the feet & inside the mouth.
