Hello

I have a wonderful Grandad who is 84 years young

a wonderful wonderful man

Last month told he had lung Cancer and it could not be treated

I only found this info out last week when he was taken into hopital with water on the lungs.

They have treated this and he was due home today but sadly yesterday he has more water come back

I just really want to talk and share how i am feeling

i am worried he will not ever come home again and he will keep getting water on the lungs.

I know its ok to feel sad and he is 84 years old and he cant liver forever but the more i think about it the more sad i get

i do wonder how much time he has left but not sure if that would make is worse

i love him and i want to try as much time as i can with him befor its time for him to go

Hi Jennie

Being a grandad myself, I'm sure your grandad is pretty pleased having such a caring grand-daughter. My grandson is 16 years old and we have a great relationship, which I value. I think your main task right now is to spend as much quality time with your grandad as possible, and just make sure he knows how much you love him. I'm sure that will mean the world to him.

I don't know anything about having fluid in the lungs, so wouldn't try to advise you, but I'm sure he's getting the best care possible. Obviously the older we get, the less time we have left, so we have to make the best of it. By spending time with him, will do him as much good as any medicine.

Best wishes,

Bill

Hi Jennie,

I am a Mum, recently widowed, and have just been to see my parents who are both 80 with various illnesses. No one knows how much time they have, but the one thing I do know is that they love seeing their grandchildren, telling stories etc. Spend as much time with him as you can and enjoy the time together. Be strong and take care x

Hi Jennie,

Again I can only say to you like the others spend as much time with your grandad as possible! I think he is a very lucky man to have you, a lovely grand daughter who loves him very much. So enjoy your time together.

Stay strong, take care xx

Hi Jennie,

My mum was diagnosed in June with lung cancer, like you it was a complete shock and it's treatable but not curable, but over the last few months we have come to the conclusion that every day is special and to spend every possible moment together. No one knows what time anyone has left, so enjoy time together and don't put things off. Stay strong and rely on friends to lean on when times get tough. Take care x

My dad has been treated for lung cancer since jan 2011, he had his lung draing at the beginning and about 4 weeks ago, he is back in hosp now as the fluid has come back so soon, Like you i fear he may never come home again, I am not coping very well, in pieces all the time. My dad is 80 and until a few weeks ago he was very good for his age , still getting out and about.I think no matter what the age none of us want to loose them xx
