Hello everyone. I just wanted to ask how many people have used ginger tea, ginger travel sickness tablets and acupressure wrist bands for their sickness? I'm having targeted therapy for lung cancer and have found it virtually impossible to go anywhere in the car without horrible nausea and vomiting. My GP prescribed very strong tablets that made me feel even worse but my Oncologist has since prescribed Metopimazine Venipharm for general sickness. I've only been on them for a week so not sure if they'll be enough yet. She says no way should I have to be suffering the way I have been.

Natural remedies to assist with sickness
Hi Mrsmilo that sounds pretty difficult 🫤
I have used the accupressure wrist bands - they work well for some people so worth giving them a try as there is no downside to them. I'd say the same about the ginger tea etc as long as they don't interact in any way with your targeted therapy. Worth a try!
Hope you get some relief.

Hello Mrsmilo
Sorry to hear about your crippling nausea and vomiting. That must be very unpleasant. I'm glad you have discussed this with your Oncologist and Metopimazine is usually very effective, as it has a central and peripheral action (brain and GI tract) so hopefully you've had some relief from this. If you take this 30 mins before travel it should help. Keep talking to your Oncologist about this if you are still suffering. In the meantime, there will be no harm as Sassassas suggests in trying other alternative methods. Here are some that have been found to help.
Eating ginger
Peppermint aromatherapy
Acupuncture or acupressure
Consuming cinnamon
Drinking plenty of water
Using the wrist acupressure technique
Taking anti-emetic medication
Focusing on breathing slowly and deeply

I use Altoids the peppermint ones. I carry them everywhere I go and they help me for nausea. I think they might help along with what your Dr prescribed. I hate feeling nauseated too and even worse vomiting. I hope you feel better soon. Hugs 🤗
Aw, thanks monkeygirl62. I will look out for the Altoids. Funnily enough, my Mum always used to suck mints when she was driving. Feeling sick and nauseous is the pits, isn't it? I hope today is a 'good' day for you. Hugs ❤️
Today was a good day, yesterday wasn't but today made up for it. I start chemo and radiation Monday. I hate being nauseous that's why I have zofran because some of my medications can make me feel queasy to the stomach. I have stage 4 metastatic breast cancer and the meds I was on can do that. My breast cancer was diagnosed a year ago and my small cell lung cancer about 3 weeks ago. Do you get nauseated while driving or just riding as a passenger? Hug 🤗
Happy to hear you've had a good day today but very sorry to hear about your breast and small cell cancer. I do hope you're coping ok with your side effects, aside from the nausea. I went into major meltdown today and had a very bad day, unfortunately. Turns out the Metopimazine isn't suiting me either. It'll be the third nausea drug I've tried and they've all caused worse nausea and other side effects too (as if I don't have enough of those!) I think I'm safer just sticking to the ginger, peppermints and wristbands! Im told travel sickness isn't as bad if you're doing the driving but I don't drive unfortunately. ❤️
I am so sorry you are having a hard time with this. I imagine you have tried lying down in the car too and not looking out the window. I have had to do that on various occasions. I am wondering if it's because the drugs you are taking orally are not effective for your nausea because it's not working in your gut, even making it worse. I know that there is anti-nausea rectal suppositories. Maybe rectal suppositories might be better since it's by passing your stomach. You could ask your oncologist about it. The anti-nausea medication Metopimazine is not sold in the United States but I don't know why. I hope you have a better day tomorrow. Hugs 🤗 Alicia
