Hi everyone, I'm still on a watch and wait basis regarding my lung cancer, and at the moment they have all grown 1mm and am mostly feeling ok. It's my 60th birthday next Friday and my daughters have booked us in for a Spa day, included in this is a hot stone back massage, but I've read it's not suitable for anyone with lung cancer. Has anyone any advice on this please?
Regards
Amanda

Hi Mindini , i am pleased to hear you are keeping well . A spa day with your daughter sounds like a perfect way to relax and spend time together . It is generally thought that deep massage on the area cancer is present is not recommended as it may cause discomfort , it has been thought that deep massage may cause cancer cells to spread although as yet there is no research that proves this . I would discuss this further with the therapist at the spa , hot stone massage to my knowledge would not be classed as a deep massage , she may be able to reassure you further or provide an alternative treatment that would provide comfort and relaxation . Enjoy your day and Happy Birthday when it comes.
I had regular body massages with Clarins for years before my lung surgery (open surgery) but when I returned I started off with facials instead. Clarins had a very specific policy about some conditions like cancer and epilepsy regarding massages often due to the oils being used not only the physical manipulation. I spoke to my consultant who said there shouldn't be a problem and I can't remember whether I had to get a letter or at least tick a box on an iPad questionnaire about how long ago the treatment was and whether I'd been advised to avoid any such treatment. Worth asking the therapist/venue before you go then you can check with your lung nurse if you have one or call the consultant's secretary with your question. if it's doubtful, ask the salon if they can swap the treatment for something else so you can still enjoy the day with your daughter.
Thank you for your reply, my lung nurse rang yesterday a d after she spoke to the consultant, he said it would be OK as long as I was comfortable lying on my front and could breath ok.Regards
