Have to see chest clinic for CT scan results

Hello everyone, I had a CT scan on Monday, sent by my GP via the 2ww pathway referral.I have just rang to see if my results are back and been told that they've been sent to the chest clinic and I will get an appointment soon to attend.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen and if they still got the all clear as I'm really worried that they've found something wrong now.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks

Nic

Hello Moosmum77

Waiting for test and scan results can cause great anxiety, the report of your scan will be sent to your Gp or clinic which referred you the time scale for this is normally can be 1 -2 weeks, although this can vary between different Health Boards.

If you are feeling concerned contact the doctor who arranged the scan to enquire how long they would normally wait for scan results to be reported.

You are welcome to contact us on ask the nurse helpline 0800 358 7200 Monday to Thursday 0900-1700 and Friday 0900-1600, alternatively you can email us at lungcancerhelp@roycastle.org

Chest clinics deal with all manner of respiratory conditions including lung cancer. Yes, there have been people who had something show that was amiss on an initial image that turned out to be something other than lung cancer - could be infection, inflammation, COPD, pneumonia or many other things.

Sometimes when something is found on imaging, a different type of imaging or test will be requested to investigate further so it's rare that imaging is the only test so hang on in there. roycastle.org/about-lung-ca...

Many have repeat imaging a few weeks later to compare and sometimes whatever was causing the discrepancy on the image has resolved. If it turns out to be a different respiratory condition and requiring consultant or GP support, that would usually be picked up so that appropriate treatment could be prescribed. It's natural to feel worried but many many people are referred for chest imaging and many turn out not to be cancer.

Worrying whether they have found something and what that might be is natural is understandable but the results will be what they will be whether you get on with your life whilst waiting your appointment or make yourself ill with worry as more symptoms can appear due to stress hormones or other reactions in your body. I've always found distraction helps me - keeping busy, doing something, helping others, losing yourself in a book/boxset/film/record collection or whatever floats your boat.... good luck.
