I'm sorry if I've already asked this question. About 6 months into being diagnosed with lung cancer,brain mets and 1 vertebrae affected I struggled to walk and it's getting worse. My Consultant says it's probably the cancer causing it and more than likely it won't improve What can I do, I just can't believe its done this to me. Has anyone got any consolation and reassurance, like is there someone out there whose succeeded in walking again or an expert consultant I can go and see, or should I just wait for Christie's to mention it, they haven't so far, just hinted it's probably permanent. I'm just so unsteady and falling over. This is a damn cruel disease.

I have a walking frame and walking stick, I find the walking stick easier to manoeuvre. I can get quite a way with it, round the house etc.
I was really hoping radiotherapy to mets on brain would solve it because I thought the brain controlled the nerves and I couldn't see it being the actual lung tumour, is there anyone you could ask. I'll ask when I go if they can do anything.
We have to hope John that it improve in the future, I can't bare the thought of not walking again. Physio coming once a week says exercises for muscle wastage could help.
My Oncologist said great doubt that walking will improve and he has been correct on all issues to date, think it's just take care and do as much as you can, while you can, as it could get worse.
It's depressing isn't it Beatless,you'd think there would be some help out there . I'll just carry on doing muscle building exercises it can't do any harm What do you think causes it, brain mets or the original lung tumour
I am in the same position, I have stage 4 lung cancer (sclc) and for the last 4 to 6 months I am unable to walk at all and it's breaking my heart there is no cure for this. I have come to terms with the cancer I haven't come to terms with the fact that its robbed me of being able to walk or even weight bare on my feet. Xxxx ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Sorry to hear that you're struggling with walking. It must be so frustrating. It is good to read that you have a stick that you find useful and that it enables you to get around the house. It is good also to hear that you have some physio input.
Regarding the unsteadiness, if this is getting worse it may be worth speaking with your lung cancer clinical nurse specialist (CNS). They may want to liaise with your oncologist to see if there is any value in getting your head re-scanned or some steroids either started, or dose adjusted, if you are already taking them. Steroids help to reduce inflammation around brain metastases and that in turn can help with symptoms. Your CNS and oncologist would be best placed to advise on this.

I am in the same predicament as you, I have been unable to walk for around 9 months. I have had no treatment for over a year but have been told it's the chemo that has caused the no walking. It has broken my heart as I am at peace with the actual cancer. I just can't cope with the fact that the actual treatment ment to help has taken my mobility. I've been told that I won't ever walk again. But everyone is different so you may walk again, push for physiotherapy to help with the muscle in the legs.
