Radiotherapy
Hi Ferntreegully. I hope that I dont put you off this treatment if it has been offered to you because everyone is different and how their body deals with recovery. My Late Wife had 20 sessions of this to her Lung and 8 to her head. It was given 1 session everyday for 20 days and before this she was able to go shopping and was out socialising with myself. She had just finished 6 cycles of chemo and her tumor had reduced significantly so this was offered which she took. It broke the tumor up and she then ended up with 4 on her Lung, 1 on her spine and 1 on her Brain. Sadly she only lived for 2 months after the Radio had finished. If it is being offered to you to reduce the size of a tumor then it may be worth going for it as it will do its job by attacking it from the inside, but as I say EVERYONE is different.
Good Luck
John
I have just been through 33 sessions of radiotherapy for a tumour on my lung, which I’m pleased to say is shrinking, I’ve also had 7 lots of stereotactic radiosurgery for 5 mets to the brain, this is targeted radiotherapy, also 12 sessions of chemo I’m pleased to say my only side effect was fatigue, everyone is different but please don’t be put off, good luck on your journey x x
Hi
I had radiotherapy on 2 separate occasions. The first for a tumour in my lung. It shrank my tumour significantly. I was left with a burnt oesophagus which I take medication for but it was worth it.
The 2nd time was for a tumour on my abdomen. This time the tumour was obliterated. I was left with a square patch of darker looking skin but it’s not painful at all.
Having radiotherapy didn’t hurt and lasted only a few minutes. You spend more time in the waiting room than you do having the treatment.
Good luck, I hope it works well for you.x
Dear Ferntreegully
Radiotherapy can be painless to have and it is more the build up of tiredness at the end of the sessions that people seem to experience. However everyone is different and it can depend on where the radiotherapy is being targeted.
This link will take you to our radiotherapy booklet which explains in detail different types of radiotherapy for lung cancer, what to expect and after care: roycastle.org/app/uploads/2...

All the very best.
