My mum was diagnoses with 3a squanous nsclc March 2017 which she had chemo gemcarbo and rads all finishing in late Aug 2017 they have kept an eye in her every 4 month with xrays and always said it was stable cancer.

Last month mam webt for her routine check ans tgey decided to do a ct scan as they said its 1 yr pist treatment. They said they could not see any new areas if cancer but could not decide if the cancer was non active or active on ct scan hense the pet scan !!

Does this sound worrying ? Im so worried they said the pet results will be goibg to an MDT meeting next thursday and will then call my mum in ..... i think this soubds suspicious ????

Has anyobe else experienced this and what was your outcome. I cant sleep as im so anxious

Dear Hope1972

Sorry to hear of the anxious wait you all have and the emotional turmoil.

The CT scan may have not shown any change at all but just to make sure PET scan will provide a more detailed analysis. It is good they are being so thorough.

Any results will always be reviewed by the MDT prior to discussing with the patient and family, so that in itself is not unusual.

It is the painful wait that plays with our minds and we naturally look for the worse thing that will happen.

Perhaps call the lung cancer specialist nurse tomorrow to discuss, which hopefully may ease your mind as your are waiting for the appointment on Thursday.

Our nurse helpline number is available Monday to Friday and is a free number on 0800 3528 7200

Wishing you all the very best

Its good that they said they cant see any new areas. I had pet scans showing mildly avid lymph nodes but no actual hot spots. All the same i still ended up having half lung removed and its turned out not to be cancer but inflammation. They thought i could have early cancer.!
