My fathers wait for surgery.

My father was diagnosed with non small cell lung cancer shortly before xmas. He has now ( for the third time) been sent home through the lack of a high dependency bed at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. He saw both the surgeon and anesthetist this morning  but still failed to get his operation today. You CANNOT get hold of anyone to answer questions. His doctor doesn't call back, admissions are always on answerphone please can someone offer me some practical advice about how to get this long overdue operation. Presumably we should try for another hospital but I think the closest would be Oxford is this worth pursuing.?

Equally I am anxious that the tumor is spreading and that he may need another CT scan to qualify the size of his tumour.

Anyone's thoughts most gratefully welcome.

Try the Churchill at Oxford as well, since I know they have lots of Cancer treatments going on (not sure if they do surgery there but i think they do)

lots of love

This must be very distressing for both you and your husband. It might be worthwhile contacting your surgeon's secretary at the hospital asking for an appointment to speak to him.You should ask the switchboard to put you through to your surgeons secretary. She will advise you what the best course of action is.

Kind regards,

I am in the US, so not much help, but will keep your father in my prayers.

Whilst waiting for the operation, can you confirm they have taken a biopsy? Has this been tested for genetic markers to determine whether any targeted treatment might be appropriate? If not, you at least might be able to get a few of these things moving in parallel whilst waiting for the op.

Not what you're looking for?
