Bottom Lobe of Right Lung Removed.

Hi

I had the bottom lobe of my right lung removed 5 weeks ago. It was done by key hole surgery. Had 4 nights in hospital. I feel fine in myself apart from get tired. Just wondered if having feeling of soreness and discomfort is normal. I know its early days but by evening my right breast and side is feeling so sore I just want to go to bed. It feels like everything inside is rubbed raw. I am walking each day and doing some housework, am I doing too much or not enough.

Hi Tina welcome to this forum, its very early days after your surgery it may be that you are doing a bit too much too soon ! although exercise is important in your recovery its equally important to rest aswell. I had mid & lower lobe removed 10 months ago and still get some nerve pain but I had open surgery which is a longer recovery, im 53 and had stage 1 adenocarcinoma, may i ask what your diagnosis was ?

Hi Julie

Thank you for welcome and reply. I was told after op that it was a primary lung, was not in any nodes and that he did not think I needed chemo, which was good news in one way as I had breast cancer four years ago so did not want a secondary breast. It was also quite small less than 2cm and picked up by a chest xray for something else, so very lucky it was found early. I go back on Tuesday for my first appointment after coming out of hospital so will know more then. I guess maybe I am expecting too much too soon and if I think about it the team in theatre did not sit twiddling their thumbs for 4 hours so lot of work gone on inside. Just find this terrible feeling of rawness like something rubbing sore and whole area very tender hard to deal with at the moment when I feel well in myself. The fact that you still get pain months on makes me realise I am expecting to feel back to "normal" too early.

Best wishes

Tina

Hi Tina i know exactly what you mean about the feeling of rawness and its so frustrating when you feel ok in yourself, its good advice from Rab to try resting for a whole day, and just potter around in between it certainly worked for me ! I found standing in a warm shower a few times a day realy helped with the pain aswell.

Thank you, will have a real rest day on Monday.

Hi Tina, like Jules said you may be pushing yourself a little too hard, have you tried taking it really easy for 1 day and seeing how the soreness and pain reacts. You know your own body better than anyone so try certain things to see how you get on. I know it took me 4-6 months to get back to near normal after my op and chemo.

Best Wishes Rab.

Hi Rabbie

Thank you for advice, will have a real rest day on Monday and try and have a few more of them, I know its being kind to yourself but so frustrating when you want to do things and I think because its nearly 6 weeks down the line people think you should be doing all sorts of things.

Take care

Best wishes

Hi Wendiau

Thank you, had a great day yesterday and felt really good, overdid it also today and feel sore again, so I really am going to take advice and rest more.

Tried to hoover today, big mistake. But feel better than I did last week and last week felt better than week before so there is improvement.

Take care.
