CANCER IS BACK....AGAIN

It has been awhile since I posted anything on here. Two years ago I was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer stage 1. They removed the lower portion of my right lung, cancer was gone. Last year the cancer ( a different type of non-small cell) was found in the left lung. With chemo and radiation I was told the cancer was gone. Now a couple of months ago I was told the cancer is back. Now it is small cell lung cancer and in two of the ribs, a spot on the spine and a spot on the pelvis. Looking at radiation (1 more day of 5 days) to help with the pain and 6 cycles of chemo. (3 days of chemo then 3 weeks off). Not sure how I am handling this.

I have found that handling this kind of news is best done one day at a time. I understand where you are as my cancer returned in June and getting my head around starting treatment again has been challenging. Supportive Care is a great resource for helping manage the emotional and physical symptoms if you have access where you are being treated. Some call it Palliative Care and please don’t think this means Hospice. They’re role is to help you manage your treatment side effects while offering emotional support. In person support groups are wonderful as well.

I wish you well and please let us know how you are doing.

Very best to you, PegD!

Every day we are here is a challenge to make it the best that we can..no matter what the circumstances..

I myself have cancer and I have sadly had to say so long to many people who also had it...

What I've seen throughout my life is that each day we are given... we have a choice...

Choose to make it a good one..no matter our circumstances..

And may God bless you always!

Hi I don’t usually post here either but read your story and feel compelled to tell you my good friend had almost exact scenario and she is doing well 5 years later. 4 times with the treatment and she is doing well.the 4th time she has changed her lifestyle ( it wasn’t bad before and not saying you should do this or have any type you should change ) just telling you what she did.

She went through 4th bout chemo and radiation. Got second opinions and also tweaked with new meds that had come out.

And she does clean eating. No sugar carbs etc. don’t get me wrong. Not saying to do that and she does have cake for bdays etc things like that. She drinks a ton of coffee and stopped sugar in there.

She swears by it.

New meds have just been approved as well. You will beat this again. I know you will.

Take care prayers for you while you are going through beating this thing

You’ve been through so much and now this new challenge. I’d like to second PegD’s suggestion that you bring a palliative care doc onto your team. If this was me I’d want an anti anxiety medication.

What is the chemotherapy they have planned? Let us know so we can help with side effects.

Sending you my thoughts for best outcomes, strength & perseverance. You've already been through so much, understandably you're overwhelmed, but someone here is right "one day at a time." I'm following your steps in this lung cancer journey. In May had my right lung middle lobe removed, adenocarcinoma stage 1. PET/CT in Sept to determine what/if further treatments, other nodules are present. Bless you. Lots of support here.
