UPDATE ON MY SISTER’S NC STAGE 4

Good afternoon group, and wishing all to be doing well!

My sister has now been on Xalcori for a few weeks. We are going to the oncologist tomorrow morning and will get a further evaluation. She had an appointment today with her pulmonologist and apparently now she has a pulmonary embolism which they are telling us that it can be controlled at home with injections. I thought that this type of condition was supposed to be very dangerous. She has been on occasion very nervous, angry and hard to control - so for that she’s been given Ativan which makes her sleepy and not herself. On top of that her psychiatrist has her taking Zyprexa which I don’t believe to be the correct antidepressant; however I’m no doctor and apparently this drug improves her appetite.

Very concerned; however I’m not her primary caregiver. As usual any feedback is so welcome!

Thank you group!

Betty

How long has she been on the zyprexa? Some drugs take a while to build up to a working level in the body. It’s an anti psychotic not an antidepressant. Do share your concerns with her primary care givers. A second opinion may make all the difference in the world.

Thank you Denzie. She’s been on it over 2 months. It has opened her appetite since the appetite meds she took before did not work for her.

Oh Betty, hang in there. You are such a loving sister, and I am sorry you don't have more control of the situation. Antipsychotics can be hard on some people, the physician certainly needs feedback to know how she is reacting to her various medications (as I am sure you know). Thanks for keeping in touch and letting us know how things are going!
