Can you believe I’m still having trouble staying off cigarettes.

My journey. Diagnosed with nsclc in March 2015. Had right upper lobe removed in Late June. Had chemoand radiation following then settled in to a routine of every 3 mos either having ct scan or pet scan and lab work. Last scan was a 6 mo. Span & was a pet scan. NEGATIVE LABS GOOD God is good and I’m very greatful, but will have the anxiety still when I return in 6 mos. Barb

I’m sorry you’re having so much trouble quitting after going through what you have. I totally understand. I didn’t quit until the day before my last treatment. I’m not sorry I smoked during the treatments as I felt it actually helped me cope.

I no longer smoke but my husband does but not in the house. He’s tried to quit several times but has been unsuccessful. I don’t nag him about quitting because he saw what I went through and I feel that that in itself spoke volumes.

I recently attended a lung cancer session as a guest of my radiation oncologist and was able to speak with a variety of specialists. Several of the doctors and researchers said they do not believe that smoking causes lung cancer. They said they believe that smoking weakens the lung and makes it more difficult to fight the cancer.

I pray you’ll be able to quit. I truly know how hard it is and I certainly don’t condemn you. I also pray that God will strengthen and bless you.

Thank you, It always helps to hear from someone who has been there.

Don't give up on quitting, you can do it. They say that nicotine is more addictive than cocaine. (Those tobacco companies really knew what they were doing.) But as the saying goes "If at first you don't succeed, try try again".

I wish you all the best, buy the way I don't think scanxiety ever really goes away.

I have a friend who has SCLC. She has been NED for six or seven years. She smokes ... a lot. She told me that she's nearly afraid to quit. She says everyone she knows who quit died after they quit.

I don't know. I was fortunate to have quit smoking about five years before I was diagnosed. I have said many times that I am so glad I had already quit because it would have been really tough to quit AND go through treatments.

Here's wishing you peace. I'm so glad that you're doing well! (Better than me - I don't smoke, but I have never been NED!)
