I'd first like to thank all of the posters for sharing their stories, they fill me with hope. I went in to see a doc in Dec for a lump in my leg and they decided to do a CT scan because I had previously smoked (quit in 2010). They found a 4 cm mass in my upper right lung and a subsequent biopsy vis EBUS diagnosed it as 3A adenocarcinoma along with numerous smaller nodules which they can't diagnose without a resection biopsy. I will be getting a VATS resection biopsy in 2 days to try and diagnose those. I'm 58 and feel healthy, no symptoms at all. The lump in my leg was biopsied and is a lymphoma. According to my doctors, once this VATS is done, I will start some sort of treatment, most likely chemo

hh, very glad you got into the Dr with your leg. As for the IIIA lung cancer, be very thankful you can have surgery. Best advice is keep a positive attitude, get up and about as soon as possible, and get yourself through the chemo and/or radiation. Keep us posted. Best Wishes, judg69
Wow, two primary cancers at once! Challenging times for you.
They will probably be checking the biopsies from the lungs for mutations. As a former smoker, the odds of a genomic mutation are lower for you, but all patients with adenocarcinoma of the lung should be checked.
Wishing you will with the surgery and recovery.

Hello hh and welcome. Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgery. Please check in often as this group can offer you much support and advice. You are in the information gathering phase which can be stressful, but once you know for sure what you are dealing with, treatment can begin and a new normal begins to emerge.
You are not alone.

I too was diagnosed in December with lung cancer stage 3. I had the resection of my left upper lung. Feeling better but not all the way yet. I should be starting chemo around the 13th.
So glad that you went to the doctor to get that lump checked out. Give yourself time to recover from the surgery. Sending you positive thoughts.
Welcome, hh1417, I private messaged you. Would love to give you more information to add to your stockpile!
I was diagnosed stage 2 squamous cell lung cancer in July 2013. They removed the upper left lobe and the tumors with it. I tried chemo but due to other issues only managed half what I should have had. I was 57 with no symptoms when I was diagnosed (at that point I had been a non smoker for about 13 years).
Good luck on your surgery. Please let us know how you are doing.
I’m grateful to read that your drs didn’t write you off because you'd quit smoking. So very sorry though that this happened. I will be following your experience with great interest.
I hear you. I too had that same lung cancer diagnosis with nonsmall cell. I received 30 radiation treatments & 6 chemos since lung mass was 4 cm. Genetic testing revealed EGFR. 2 years later of no more treatments I finally get CTScan every 6 months instead of every 3 months. Treatments were super tough for me. Hang in there!
