Just home after lung wedge resection

After so much anxiety about lung surgery, I was discharged this morning three days from the surgery date. It was not as bad as I'd feared.. the most painful part was the chest tube but the pain was significantly reduced after that was removed. I had the surgery because of a PET positive, speculated 1.5 cm nodule in lower left lobe which was they were unable to biopsy satisfactorily despite two attempts. It turned out to be sarcoidosis which had been stable for past 20 years but suddenly started growing and, apparently, can't be differentiated from cancer on testing. Not sure what happens next, but I'm on the mend. My thoughts and prayers are for any of you awaiting lobectomy...my experience mirrored my the other two patients in the maxi care ward who had lobectomies. Both said it was much easier than they'd expected. Take care and God Bless.

Leigh, glad to hear that your worst fears went unrealized. Sorry that the sarcoidosis is active again but so relieved for you that it wasn't a carcinoma.

Thanks Denzie... yes, I'll move on now to a respirologist who will figure out why the sarcoidosis is on the move but I'm grateful for the outcome. Take care!

Hi, I'm glad surgery went well. I am going to have a right lower lobectomy this Wednesday. I have been extremely anxious. Happy healing to us both.

Good thoughts and prayers for an uneventful and successful surgery. Be kind to yourself and take it one step at a time. You can do this. Don't be afraid to ask for help during your recovery and do use pain meds when you need them. They allow you to move around which helps with recovery. Will be thinking and praying for you.

Thanks Jax... please don't be afraid of the surgery. I was, and it was much better than I'd imagined. The pain medications keep it manageable and I was walking around the day after surgery, as recommended. Once the chest tube was removed on the second post-sx day, it was a remarkable improvement. You will do great... I'll send a prayer for you. Take care!
