Genital lymphadema post radiation?

My husband suffers from terrible genital lymphadema as well as his left leg. He has been doing PT 2x/wk plus compression for the leg, however we can’t quite figure out any solution for his poor genitals. Anyone with experience here??

There are compression garments available for this. Is he under the care of a lymphoedema clinic? They should be able to measure and order a custom made garment. Also, a lymphoedema therapist should show you how you could apply simply lymphatic drainage techniques, which could help alleviate the build up of fluid in this area, and teach you how to apply a gentle compression bandage - which, properly applied, can be very comforting.

He is seeing a physical therapist who specializes in post radiation lymphedema but not part of a clinic. I will look into options near us. We are in Atlanta. Thanks!!

Check if his PT is Certified Lymphedema Therapist CLT. If the PT is not a CLT he/she will not be as educated or knowledgeable about lymph drainage and compression options. There are plenty of CLTs in Atlanta he could be referred to if PT isn’t certified, his oncologist can prescribe

You can source/search CLTs here

I have the same problems I use a compression arm sleeve cut 4-5” of the upper arm end and sew cut ends together to form a small pouch these work well for me I have tried made to measure garments but they tend to make it more bulkier and make it even more noticeable in the trouser department hope this helps good luck

My son has scrotal Lymphedema. He’s tried custom garments, but finds them uncomfortable. Still worth it for your husband to try though. Definitely check out a therapist who does manual lymph drainage and have them show you both how to do it. My son’s is not that bad, so he wears compression underwear. The ones that fit the best around that area are the adidas sports underwear, they are snug but not too tight and are cut to cradle that area. Here they are. amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01J53V9...
