Summer

We just bought plane tickets for June. This will be my first summer in compression socks. I am afraid I will roast. I am also nervous about how my legs will respond to flying. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Put your compression on the morning you fly, and keep them on until bedtime at your destination. Sit next to the aisle on the flight, so that you can get up and move around every 20-25 minutes. Drink water - avoid alcohol.

If there is a small refrigerator in your accommodation, store your compression in it overnight, before donning.

Have a small aerosol container of water in a bag, and spray the socks while you are wearing them.

Wear loose, floaty clothing if you are going somewhere hot. Avoid direct sun on your affected limbs - drape with a towel. If you have access to a pool - use it - walking in water is the best way to alleviate additional swelling.

Morning Lynora

Thanks for the reply you given, even though it wasn't for me. This year I've decided to go on a little holiday myself. I'm trying my hardest to be positive with regards to travelling and doing more things that are Lymphoedema friendly such as swimming and yoga.

Thanks so much all. (New account name due to the FB problem) I will make the best of it. I have always been a barefoot in the summer kind of perspn and this new normal of thick compression socks is rather dishearteneing. But my legs do feel so much better. Best to you all!

I lived in fl 35 years and yes the heat can effect this dis order... i wrap when I travel and wrap at night I keep my legs elevated once indoors /hotel for awhile .. keep leg covered to avoid sunburn ... swim or expose leg before 10 am and after 4 pm when sun is not as intense. enjoy your trip... avoid sugar fruit is ok... alcohol wine can aggravate so don't be a lush ha ha..... enjoy have fun... it may be normal to feel your leg against the stocking as heat can expand the leg a bit. embrace it.. without fear.

be aware...........................I am moving back to fl north of Orlando. I am prepared to deal with it............. swimming pool helps a lot... sun can still get to you.
