Pain and itching: Does anyone know a. Why we get such... - LSN
Pain and itching
Has you GP checked you over with regards to the pain? Have you had a recent infection? Could it be muscular?
Itching could be the result of a number of things. Do you wear garments? Do you apply emollient?
Can you describe the pain? And when you get it?
Similarly the itching...do you mean itching on the skin or a feeling of itchy restlessness in your leg?
The pain is from ankle to knee on both legs. I wear compression stockings. The itching is from head to knee. I am going, for the first time to the Lymphedema Clinic on Monday so I will mention all of this.
Pain because the blood vessels not working correctly. If you are wearing the correct compression stockings then you must raise and rest your legs more. I work on half hour exercise, then half hour raise and rest. Sitting at a dining table can be a nightmare with pain.
I came down with terrible rash everywhere, large spots, and also masses of tiny blisters. They itch terribly, even my scalp. Double and triple rinse everything. Shower water only, no soap. Tried all sorts of creams and steroid ointment. Now have a granuloma on my back and having to go to hospital to have it removed.
Thank you so much for your reply I was getting paranoid about the rash I thought I had"scabies" !!! What you have sent in reply to my post is me to a tee and as for sitting at a table it's awful.
Glad to have helped Barney22 Covered in spots at the moment and patches of small blisters (rather like shingles). Tried something my Grandmother used to try on me when I was a child and suffered with hives, washed and peeled a potato. Sliced it up (raw) on a plate then stroked it over the rash. It took the itching away for a while, cleanliness ???? Creams and Steroid Creams and anti-histamine don't seem to help. Keep as cool as possible. Experiment with Ice-packs or ice-pads (covered with a tea-towel), to put where the worst itching is. Try not to sit on upright chairs with pressure on the backs of your thighs as this makes the pain worse. Keep your lower legs raised. Best of luck.
P.S. I spent ages searching my bed for insects in case we had picked up bed-bugs in our luggage after holidaying abroad. Nothing there thank goodness.
Ha ha I've been checking my bed with a magnifying glass for the same reason. I'm going to try bieel over the weekend if that doesn't work I am at the Lymphedema clinic on Monday I will see what they say.
What is bieel?
You just asked the question I wanted to know Barny22 so interested in answers. I sometimes wake up in the morning with body scratched to bits, wondered if it related to lymphedema
Don't know if I have already answered, but here goes. 2 years ago I had a mastectomy because of two tumours in one breast. After that developed Varicose Eczema. Had problems for years with swollen legs and feet and then infections. Lymphodema ! Leg Clinic who were marvellous. Dreadful itching and rashes developed. One spot under my bra wouldn't heal, became open sore and constantly bleeding. Apparently cells change and there is a chance there could be malignancy underneath so has to be cut out and biopsy taken. Hopefully 21st Feb if not before.
I get itchy - feels like millions of bugs crawling around inside my legs - when the lymph is all backed up in my legs (primary LEin my legs) and I need to do manual drainage to relieve the pressure and itchy feeling. I also have to always keep my legs elevated when I'm sitting. Standing is not easy - Much better when I'm moving around.
Also, it's important to clear your trunk from collected lymph by doing lymphatic abdominal breathing - this always relieves pressure and helps the itchy insects in my legs feeling. I do breathing exercises 3-5 times/day for 10 minutes but even if you do 2-3 minutes it helps!!
If you need a good instructional video on proper lymphatic breathing let me know and I'll post the link
Cat x
Cat - would you kind posting the link for the breathing exercises. PenelopeW
Sure, here it is. It's in two parts and if you also want self-MLD instruction of upper or lower extremities it's on her website.
It's takes practice to learn how to do diaphragmatic breathing but it's worth it. This breathing wakes up the deeper lymphatics and moves lymph from deep within the trunkal lymphatics to drain into the thoracic duct.
I do an abreviated version of breathing 2-5 times per day for 5-10 minutes each
