Asthma in pregnancy.....

Does anyone have any experience to share deadling with asthma in pregnancy?

I am 33 weeks pregnant today and have been represcribed an inhaler I havent used in many years.

I technically have asthma from a long time ago - post 10 years. But never have any symptoms and don't use any medication.

The doctors said due to a cough that won't get better the last few weeks I need to manage it with an inhaler..

Of course now I am on goolge getting stressed about oxygen levels in relation to the baby!!

Anyone been through this?

First of all congrats and I'm sorry you're sick! You're so close to the end! I remember it starts to get hard to sleep and eat right around the 33-week mark...

There are some good threads in this group on asthma in pregnancy if you search for those words in the archives.

It's always better to err on the safe side with asthma in pregnancy and to take meds etc. rather than risk having an exacerbation.

What inhaler does your doctor want you to take and how often?

I am on Salbutamol, but seems to be doing nothing at all. I am taking when needed, but it gives me the shakes....

The lungs also just get kind of smushed right around this time because the baby is so big and crushing your ribs. I remember feeling breathless then.

Take good care and definitely ring up the asthma nurse right away if you're having symptoms. You're never bothering anyone when both your health and the baby's health are in the picture this close to delivery! I hope it all goes smoothly and you get to enjoy cuddling with your little one in just a few weeks!

I know this is an older post but I thought I would chime in.

I have had asthma my whole life. I was not on daily inhalers when I was pregnant though. But then I got sick. My OB insisted that I get back on my flovent daily and albuterol, if needed, to be sure the baby was getting enough oxygen. He even wrote my prescriptions, with my assistance, since he knew very little about the dosage of flovent. Lol.
