Hi does anyone have experience of getting personal independence payment with cp. I've recently applied. I currently receive DLA but have heard some scary stories re pip and the deserving not getting it.

Hi,
I've recently applied for PiP. The Citizens Advice Bureau offer a service in which one of their volunteers will come to your home and fill in the 30-page PiP form (it took 3 hours). I can't say if I'll get PiP, but at least the form has been filled in legibly by someone who has been trained in putting the best format (I hope) of answers for the DWP.
I hope this helps.
I used to volunteer with Citizens Advice and please do get help from them. They may be able to offer a appeal service if things don't go your way. Although, I would hope common sense would prevail but we are dealing with the DWP! A book I have found useful is personal independence payment - what you need to know by the Child Poverty Action Group. It should describe the process in a clear and concise way.
I hope this helps.
My additional comment is more about the DWP system than the PiP.
Phone the DWP to check that they have recorded your claim as expected.
But perhaps I was unlucky - the DWP mislaid my sick note and my claim form, which took sone effort to resolve!
Hi. Just an update. I had my PIP Assessment on 25 Feb. This was fine and the Atos assessor was very professional and understanding. She was surprised I'd even been asked to attend an assessment given the severity of my CP. I called the DWP and they received the assessment report on 3 March. I requested a copy and this arrived on 15 March. It was very thorough and conclusively positive as far as the claim was concerned. Since 3 March I've been regularly calling DWP for an update to be given various advice ranging from 'call tomorrow' to 'it could be another 8 weeks'. I was also advised that because I was on DLA, I would not get any backdated cash if successful even though I currently only get DLA high rate mobility and applied for PIP care and mobility! Unlike a brand new claimant who would get full cash backdated to date of claim! Got a call from the DWP decision maker today to advise my decision has been made and that the delay was because of a system disconnect between my DLA claim and the PIP claim. So I was told on the phone today that I've been awarded enhanced PIP for daily living and mobility - great news. Letter due within 7 days apparently. The downside is that PIP only starts from 8 April (due to DLA crossover) and I applied in January so I reckon I will have lost over £600 in backpay compared to a new claimant - that seems unfair, but DWP say thats the law currently. Still I wanted to let you know that the process was nothing to be afraid of in my experience. You need to gather the evidence is my one main tip and keep chasing for progress because if like me you are already on only one component of DLA and you now qualify for all of PIP, you lose out until a decision is made. I hope that helps someone.
