weight post liver transplant
Are you still on Prednisolone too Minniemoore because it certainly leads to weight gain?
Do you see a dietician at your transplant clinic appointments? I know that at our TP clinic pre & post transplant patients see the dietician every time to monitor weight - pre need to gain and post seem to want to loose. If you arn't then you should perhaps ask to see one to get proper dietary advice as you are still very early into your post transplant life.
I guess that once your new liver properly kicks in you'll start burning the calories and as your health improves you should be able to exercise more leading to those extra few pounds coming off.
If it is bothering you then you should run it past your transplant team.
All the best to you.
Katie
Thanks Katie for that. I have an appointment with the dietician at my next clinic. I'm on pernisolone alright but that's not the problem, I'm on then since 2006 and weight was fine. I do walk every day but get pains in my legs from it not bad enough to stop me walking though.
Your dietician is the right person to ask. What was your condition pre-transplant was your weight ok or low? If you were on prednisolone prior to transplant then it was to help with your damaged liver but now with your new liver it is potentially adding to the weight gain. You've got a new liver which is 'bedding in' and actually working again properly whereas you wouldn't probably gain much weight with a poorly liver now you've got a healthy one you are processing food more normally.
You are fairly newly into life post transplant, give it some time, I know there is one guy at our TP centre who is swimming and going to the gym trying to get his weight down and gradually doing so. My hubby has been piling it on in preparation for potential transplant (gone from 8 1/2 stone to 11).
Wishing you all the best, Katie
