Goose egg for lunch

Professor-Yaffle profile image

I'm very pleased with myself today; firstly for managing to find some goose eggs when we are at the end of the season and secondly, for managing not to over boil them. This one had ten minutes in boiling water.

Lunch today was a soft boiled goose egg with giant asparagus, smoked salt, pepper and a little drizzle of truffle oil.

Thanks SewMore. It was lovely. A goose egg is always super filling. They say they are the equivalent of two hen eggs but I find them much richer so I always think it's like eating 3 hen eggs. 🥚Have great day.

That's a coincidence, I also had a goose egg for lunch, but the other kind 😂

Looks delicious. Google says it's around 150g, so that is 3 eggs.

Enjoy

(don't show this over on HE, where they are swapping pictures of goslings)

😂

Are you fasting or just out and about in the food desert?

Yes, there is a family of goslings wondering about outside where I live today 😭.

I had a closer look at their poo and it seemed to be all grass, they don't get much bread thrown at them round here I think.

I don't usually eat during the day.

Except that I just opened my fridge, and absent-mindedly got a slice of cheese. I am not sure if that counts as lunch or snack. Snack, I think.

This time last year, the goslings around here were eating all sorts of grains, as I emptied by cupboards of carbs. A pigeon choking down an unpopped popcorn is a terrifying thing. I wonder if it made it through their digestive tracts.

Poor birds! 😱

Do you just eat dinner? I tend to eat a late lunch and an early dinner. It would be interesting to start a thread about peoples eating patterns. I presume most people posting here eat LCHF to some degree but I don't know much about the rythmn of their eating.

I'm also thinking a lot today about LCHF diets and dental/oral health. I went to the Dentist for the first time in about 25 years, I was feeling a bit ashamed of myself for having neglected this part of my health care. I was also expecting a big bill for fillings and extractions (I have never had any of either and I presumed this was because I have avoided the dentist rather than genuinely not needing them). The dentist was quite visibly astonished that my teeth and gums are in tip-top condition, no problems at all. I told them that I presume this is because I haven't eaten sugar on a regular basis since I was about 20....

Anyway I came home and googled it and was very surprised to read that a lot of the big dental companies like Colgate strongly don't recommend a low carb diet - I was expecting them not to have an opinion TBH or be mildly in favour due to the obvious benefit for your teeth. Shocking really 🤯

I was exaggerating. I eat when I am hungry, and I wasn't hungry yesterday. Right now it's nearly 9am and I am starving - if that doesn't fade with the next coffee, I will probably have three meals today. I am trying not to eat according to a timetable, but genuine hunger clues.

I joined HU because I started I was looking for a fasting forum, healthunlocked.com/fasting-... then moved to other parts.

If you are interested in diet and teeth, you might be also interested in the work of Weston A Price. I can't totally endorse him, as there are overtones about his work I don't like, but it's still interesting.

As for Colgate, did you mean this? colgate.com/en-us/oral-heal... WTAF? I doubt it's corporate policy decided in the boardroom, just someone's opinion, but still, what's it doing there? Besides anything else, I don't think keto breath is even that common. I don't think I have ever had it (I believe you can taste it if you do), and the only people I know who had it found it went away quickly.

Hunger disappeared while typing this!!

I had a little look at Weston A Price. A lot of the stuff about teeth went over my head. I have a very low understanding of all things dental beyond brushing my teeth twice a day and not eating sugar (I did just buy my first electric toothbrush though). Some things I can get behind in terms of diet but he and/or his foundation also seem to be raving anti-vaccination types 😩. I'm guessing that's why you don't endorse him, as you don't seem to have an anti-vaccine vibe to me.

Yes, the Colgate page was my first hit. I thought it was a bit off having all the supposed risks that are unrelated to dental/oral care and no focus on the minimisation of risk to your dental/oral health with a low carb diet.

Have a great weekend Subtle_badger.
