Mixed day

So I was at a work thing in London today with lunch laid on. All sandwiches and subs ☹️ so not great for me. BUT I took emergency cheese and managed to step away from the croissants and chocolate cookies! So feeling a just a little virtuous 😊

You get five stars from me for doing that. You are an example to us all Lee.

Well done!! We had lunch in a café last week and there was NOTHING on the menu that could fit in with LCHF. In the end, I had a bacon and brie baguette with coleslaw (homemade and that was nice though the carrot was a bit naughty). I also felt very virtuous as I left the lovely crispy baguette but it broke my heart too!! :'(

"Emergency cheese" :)

When you start doing LCHF, you realise how much of the average British diet is carbs, carbs, carbs. With extra carbs. Most people just eat what's put in front of them and genuinely don't realise it's doing them harm.

Bear in mind that when you're a few months in, this sort of thing isn't actually a big deal as long as it's only an occasional thing. Most people don't realise that maintaining a LCHF diet actually means that your body becomes better at handling carbs than it was before. It's true that they'll cause a fairly large glucose spike because you're not used to them, but that glucose will be properly buffered and recycled.

The average buffet usually has something that's not technically low-carb, but is in the right ballpark. For example a real croissant (not a fake one made with margarine) has plenty of fat in it and perhaps 20g net carbs.

That’s interesting to know, thank you 😊 although I wouldn’t want to be the one questioning Pret about the quality of their croissants so I would hope they are made with butter. The only thing provided that wasn’t wrapped in bread was vegetable crisps and they are root vegetables!

I went to the river cottage canteen last week with friends. Last time I went they were most accommodating. This time there set menu was all veggie and full of chick peas so I ended up with a tiny price of steak and two Fried eggs at a cost of £20 😩

Thats disappointing. I can usually find something when I eat out. Thing is, you don't know the menu unless you check in advance!

We ate there just before xmas and the food was lovely and they were very accommodating to my various intolerances, haha the waitress kept offering me chips and three times I told her I can’t have chips cause of the carbs ....
