OK, after reading a article on this site and spending yesterday researching low carb. I have decided to go for it. Il make mistakes im sure but Ill do my best. downloaded carb manager onto my phone to help me. Its looks a good app. You can scan bar codes with it....a bit like MFP. I have set it at 50 to start with as no idea what my level is and ill go from there. Had 11 for breakfast. This should keep me satified till lunchtime.

Like you I’m no expert, I tended to Have hardly have any carbs at first ..checking everything I bought, still don’t have many carbs ..
I like how I didn’t feel hungry, it helped ..I didn’t crave after a while and that helped me a lot..I was so surprised at how many things do have carbs in...but managed to steer towards those things that didn’t..
Thank you for reply and support. I did read it helps a lot with snacking. Thats my biggest hurdle. My meals are quite healthy it the inbetween that does the damage..... And the wine lol
I was losing weight calorie counting but i have made far steadier progress since lowering carbs, I’m rarely hungry and my IBS has improved no end.
I log my food on my Fitbit app which gives carb totals. I aim for 75-100g per day as I really miss fruit if I go much lower. I am losing 1-2lb per week on this and don’t feel deprived so working for me
I’m not really sure that you necessarily need to use an app-if you cut out ( or at least right back on) sugar, bread, pasta, potatoes and rice you suu hi oils be ok
Thank you Baba for reply and support. I'll use the app till u get the hang of it. Thenatbe I can go it alone. Just logging till I find out what in what
Regarding the snacking, do make sure you're eating until you're full. No need to restrict the amounts (or count calories). There is an unfortunate trend these days to gaslight people who are snacking - they're told that they're just dehydrated and need to drink, or (worse) that they're being greedy and thoughtless. More often than not, they're actually hungry, because they're just not eating enough, and/or eating too many carbs (which get stashed away as fat and become inaccessible for fuel).
Also, do make sure you're making up your missing carb-calories with fat. A common mistake is to go low-carb AND low-fat, replacing carbs with protein (which your body can't use for energy in the absence of carbs and fat). People then feel dreadful and give up, concluding that LCHF "doesn't work".
As long as you're sticking to your carb allowance, you can eat until you're full and still lose weight. In fact if you restrict your calories you may well remain in "famine mode" if you've been doing a calorie-counted diet previously.
I agree with babss that you're unlikely to need the app going forward, although it can be useful for the first few days. Most of us here never bothered counting carbs as such - as long as you stick to foods that are inherently low-carb, you'll be fine.
Thank you Toad for your reply and support. I'll take all that on board. Must admit to replacing the carbs with protein. I'll put in some fat..... That goes right against all i know about weightloss.... Which has not worked of course
Yes, it's counterintuitive, but it works! If you want to know why it works, I recommend "A New Atkins For A New You", by Phinney and Volek (a bariatric surgeon and his research collaborator). They know their onions. Phinney runs a low-carb clinic in the US for diabetics.
All the best to you exploring the LCHF way. I wonder where you did your research, I used the dietdoctor, so very informative and lots of really excellent recipes.
