Well thought I should try Keto Bulletproof coffee after all the raving about it as I have tailored coffee and cream instead not liking the idea of butter in my hot drink...it really is very pleasant and does ‘sharpen’ you up. I’d recommend those of you who feel it’s one step too far to try it at least once.
Usually on the Ketogenic diet I try and finish eating in the evening at 7pm then in the morning have coffee with a scant tablespoon of single cream, but recently I’ve been having 3 or four coffees with cream which is ok still within my carb restriction. The thing is to keep myself satiated until 12 when I break the fast and have lunch. I think one coffee with cream is acceptable within the fast but probably not 3 so today I thought I’d try the Bulletproof coffee to tide me over til lunchtime and although it’s only 11:30 I’m not feeling peckish yet which is a shame as I’ve just cooked a stunning Frittata with some fridge leftovers! Maybe in an hour I’ll eat a bit with green salad the photo is 4 servings

The frittata looks lush ! I'm a whimp that hasn't tried it yet! Lol but I also have 3/4 coffees with full fat milk to get me to lunch, maybe I should bite the bullet ? (Pun intended!) x
I’m a real coffee buff... Nespresso machine addicted don’t mess with my caffeine ever lunatic!!!! and I was surprised I liked it to be honest!! It’s on lineup for tomorrow morning now before I head out to work at 6:15!!!
It’s fresh coffee which you add butter and MCT oil to and whisk it up to a froth and it helps to stop you feeling hungry and makes you button sharp! Look it up online. The MCT oil is supposed to encourage speedier fat burning also. I added a teaspoon of flavourless coconut oil instead as I’m still waiting for my MCT to arrive from Amazon! Sounds dreadful I have been avoiding it but TBH it’s lovely!!!
Can anyone tell me what MCT oil is? I'm learning a lot firstly with psyllium husks. Are these things healthy? If so why haven't we heard of them before KETO?
I'm going to try the coffee but with coconut oil I think.
Maybe do some research on these things there is plenty of information online be proactive and if you are suspicious of something try and find out as much as possible on its origin or background and use then you can make informed choices. Knowledge is key 🔑
Stands for "medium chain triglycerides", ie., fats in which the majority of the fatty acids have <12 carbon atoms. You'll hear a lot of noise about coconut oil being terribly bad for you because it's a "saturated fat", but your body doesn't really make any distinction between the way it burns saturated or unsaturated fatty acids. However it does have different reaction pathways for different fatty acids, short- and medium-chain ones being dealt with in a slightly different way to long-chain FAs. They're burned preferentially for fuel, rather like carbohydrates, which is why they're touted as a bioavailable source of energy.
Whether there's any substance in the theory that this makes MCTs "better", I honestly don't know. I use unprocessed coconut oil simply because it tastes nice and it's heat-stable.
Thank you. I like the taste of coconut myself so will try that first. Sorry to ask more but what about coconut and almond milks. Are they LCHF friendly do you know?
They're definitely "keto friendly", but personally I only use coconut milk for cooking, and I just don't like almond milk - I find it too overpowering.
Once you're well into your weight-loss phase, it's OK to just use ordinary full-fat milk in your coffee etc.

I've been reading and listening to a lot of information about LC/keto diets. One of the continual selling points is that it's real food: flour is processed, canola oil processed, margarine is processed, lard is natural, olive oil is natural etc etc and you should avoid processed food. Then I click another link and find people recommending this coffee with fractionalized coconut oil and (according to the BulletProof site) optional collagen protein power. This feels the antithesis of my understanding of this sort of eating.
How do people reconcile this? Or have I missed the point entirely?
Don't be afraid of treading on people's toes - there's a refreshing lack of snowflakes over here! I think all that happened over in the other thread is that someone didn't get your sense of humour. Easy to happen when everything's text-only.
Personally, I agree with you. I don't feel inclined to add things like MCT oil (ie., refined coconut oil) or the various low-carb powders to my food. However I do understand that some people like to use them temporarily while they're doing their keto phase. I used artificial sweeteners for 2-3 weeks (I forget) to help me get rid of sugar. Some people feel the need for bread substitutes. I don't see anything wrong with this as long as it doesn't keep you stuck in a carb-based mindset.
Most technology has a narrow range of valid use-cases; they only really become a problem when they're used without any good reason.
A lot of the impetus for all the stuff you're talking about comes from the food industry, IMO, who are keen to repurpose their crap so they can hitch it to the nearest fashionable bandwagon.
Just for the record, my trepidation comes from a different diet/health forum, mostly type II diabetics, and in 2 posts I so thoroughly offended them with something that felt innocuous, that I never went back.
LOL - that wouldn't be the Diabetes and Hypertension forum, by any chance? I stopped going there because it was just toxic. There appeared to be two kinds of member:
- Those whining about their aches, pains, and medications but not prepared to do anything to help themselves
- Those who treasured their status as ill people like a precious heirloom, and would react angrily to any suggestion that maybe they'd like to get better
There was also one woman who professed to be employed by the NHS, who castigated me for attempting to "take away people's choices" when I suggested that if one is carbohydrate intolerant, one might want to reduce one's carbohydrate intake ...
So I gave up after a while. Over a couple of years of occasional posting, I got a grand total of one positive response (he dropped off the radar for a while and then came back reporting complete diabetic remission after trying LCHF under medical supervision) and a whole barrelful of vitriol. You can lead a horse to water and all that.
I’m not following a Keto Diet because it’s ‘natural ‘ food though, and I sort of get what you’re saying about it all seeming a bit manufactured ... I’m following because it’s working for me and I’m not hungry when I make oily/fatty coffee In the mornings. I think eating butter cheese and cream is my idea of heaven they are my favourite foods and I don’t feel like I am being deprived of much like when you are on a diet....
