I messed up

Bobbi6 profile image

I’m disappointed in myself tonight. Hubby wanted McDonalds. A burger sounded so good but I did not want fast food and would not eat all those unhealthy carbs. It was past time to eat by the time we finally got home. I was so hungry and honestly fighting off some food cravings that I ended up eating a 10 oz T bone steak and no veggies. 😞 I’m hoping by being accountable here I’ll make better choices tomorrow. At least I didn’t go over my 20 grams of carbs too.

Don't fret over it. I can't even see how you messed up here? In fact you did a great job resisting the McDolan's burger. Veggies are good, but they're not crucial.

I can recommend making your own burger patties and keeping them in the freezer for "emergencies". Add a slice of (proper!) cheese, top with some onions, fried with a dash of balsamic vinegar, and put some salad or baked pumpkin wedges on the side. Add a big spoonful of homemade ranch dressing. Test on husband.

Thank you. I do make burgers at home but not as yummy as you do yours. Worth a try. My hubby loves fast food burgers and junk food galore. The reason I feel I messed up was bc the serving of steak was so big. I’ve been eating mainly proteins and fat. I love all kinds of protein but I feel like I’m eating too much of it to be healthy. I have protein at every meal. My healthcoach wants me to have one meatless day a week. I don’t know if I can do it to be honest.

You can do it! You might even like it! Quorn is a good substitute for meat... do you also eat oily fish in your week? Aubergine cooked well can feel very ‘meaty’ in a curry.

I think people make too much fuss about meat. Notwithstanding my nitpicking in MikePollard 's thread, I believe he is fundamentally correct that protein and fat are equally satisfying, and basically interchangeable on LCHF. My only argument over there was the idea of restricting one or the other on the basis that you're "eating too much", and I can see a similar issue here.

If you had to eat a 10oz steak in order to feel full, then it was probably correct. If you're losing bodyfat (or at least not gaining it!) then by definition you're not eating too much. Honestly, I would make more effort to get more vegetables on your plate - not least because they're a lot cheaper than meat, and they add variety and interest to a meal. But surprisingly enough there is little evidence to support the "everyone should have five a day" position of the NHS. I mentioned this guy elsewhere:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vilhj...

whose claim to fame was surviving - in fact thriving - on a diet of entirely meat for a year. I wouldn't recommend this (he had to eat a certain amount of organ meat and raw meat to get adequate micronutrients) but I think it makes the point.

Do give the deluxe homemade burgers a go - the outline I gave you was the way we make them in our restaurant (although we do serve them with buns). It might help wean hubby off junk food!

Totally agree with RedUnicorn 's suggestion for eggplant. Try this:

Bet the guy who ate nothing but meat had terrible breath though! 😂

TheAwfulToad profile image
TheAwfulToadAmbassador in reply to RedUnicorn

I'm afraid history does not record that detail :)

It's possible he didn't, if he was careful with his teeth-cleaning routine. I do find that, since starting LCHF, I get more bits of meat stuck in my teeth and I have to floss more regularly. I'm not sure why, because I don't think I eat more meat than I did before, but it is what it is.

"Keto breath", I'm reliably informed, hasn't been a problem for me ...

Lucky you! I floss and brush regularly but my husband informs me that I still need the mints ..., on the upside I’m losing weight 😊

If you managed not to bop your husband on the head and steal his burger from him then I wouldn’t worry too much just this once. It’s not as if you’re going to make a habit of it.

Hi

One thing I’ve learnt from joining this LCHF forum is don’t beat yourself up.

T bone steak sounds perfect for LCHF.

A new day tomorrow.

Best wishes

Ok thank you. Just was upset I ate 10 oz of it. Seems a bit much but I truly was hungry and wasn’t stuffed after. I will look at it as a nice treat and move on. Today I’ve had smaller servings of meat and added veggies. I’m happy with that.

I always carry a 90sec Keto bun nowadays. Big Mac no problem just swap the bun for mine. Also if nothing on a menu that’s strictly Keto I treat the bun as my flat bread etc and get something to go with it, like chilli without rice ( I’m sure you can think your own up 😁) been doing it 4 ish yrs now and it hasn’t let me down.

Oh my goodness when I hear this kind of stuff it makes me nuts, as long as you didn't go over your carb count eat 10 steaks if you want. you should be celebrating you didn't eat the McDonalds, not guilting yourself and sometimes it's ok to splurge on yourself in a good way. Enjoy yourself and only use the guilt when it's necessary GREAT JOB !!! Do a Happy Dance and pat yourself on the back !!!!

Awe thank you. Ya I’m over it now. Thanks for your kind words. Haven’t been eating at restaurants for months now, stopped processed food a long time ago, and only recently stopped starchy veggies and rice, beans, potatoes etc. It has been easy not going over carbs but eating without counting calories has me nuts. It was drilled hard into my head. Counting calories is the only way to lose weight. I’m not going to give up on keto. I love the progress I’m seeing. It’s all just a bit scary is all.

I dont know the keto diet but I do know the low carb diet and I have personally helped 13 people lose 70 or more lbs and I know it works beside myself losing on it, I can't wait till my second weigh-in even though I screwed up myself this week but today is a new day and I'm, not going to let that guilt trip devil in lol its just a way for me to do further damage I am so glad you are doing better YEA !!!!

I love a good steak and a few other meats. But sometimes all I want is veggies. I've come to realize I don't crave meat all the time. Maybe two or three times a week. Pasta and potatoes are my weaknesses though.
