Tuesday I started on the protein shake meal replacement, oh no I hear people say ,I had such negative support from family and friends to say it want work and if you lose you will put it all back on .

I have a shake for breakfast and one for lunch, tea is what ever I have in the fridge, have a good understanding of what counts to a healthy meal , never fry anything always chicken or fish with some form of vegetable or salad . The let down is the pudding which we have every night, there again it's not always a unhealthy choice but still I don't think I ever over indulge but my weight does not shift .

Fingers crossed that this will kick start me in to losing at least a fee pound

I'm not sure you have grasped the concept of LCHF.

What you are embarking on is a standard weight loss diet, not LOW Carbohydrate, HIGH fat.

You have it completely about face by eschewing anything fried and indulging in carbohydrate rich puddings.

Sorry I still don't understand, isn't the article called low cards high fats , and rice pudding where has that come from , I don't eat it lol .

That's why I was asking about the low carb diet as it's not something I have considered. I have a healthy diet and count calories mainly. Was looking for help to show me the way .

I'm afraid Mike is right (don't take his irascible answers personally, that's just his way ;) ). The point of LCHF is to delete all of the carbohydrate-based energy from your meals, and replace it with fat. You don't need to do anything with your protein intake, and you don't need to count calories or eat child-sized meals.

Adding more fat doesn't mean your meals are swimming in grease: fat is so energy-dense that you only need about 100-200g a day (depending on what phase of LCHF you're in - induction, weight-loss, or maintenance).

Puddings, almost by definition, are unhealthy. Or at least are full of carbs and will prevent weight loss. That doesn't mean you can't ever eat puddings again - life would be boring if we didn't indulge in a little sinfulness now and again - but while you're attempting to lose weight, they have to go. You'll be eating filling meals instead, so you're less inclined to want them.

The mainstream understanding of "healthy" is simply wrong, and you're going to have to unlearn a lot of nonsense: for example, there's absolutely nothing wrong with frying things - indeed you're going to have to do it more often. Consider: if "healthy" foods were actually healthy, why do they make people fat and ill?

As for protein shakes and meal replacements - that's just another daft idea from the diet industry. It doesn't work long term, and it's certainly not healthy. Your family/friends are right in that regard. LCHF is all about real food, and it's about eating it forever so the excess flab stays gone.

Yes thanks I just been on the link and signed up to receive information. It's hard when you have been told for years frying food it bad ,grill every thing . It's the opposite of what when have learnt from the diet trends over the years . I have read and do understand the concept of what LCHF is getting at but my worry is that again we all jump on board with it and the end result we put weight on . My thinking is if it was that easy then we would not have a nation of over weight people and we would be all on the same wave length. That sad I am going to follow it for two weeks and will see what the results are .

Ps my pudding are mainly yoghurt, fruit, jelly and low calorie options from various diet books lol

Yes, you'll get a very uncomfortable feeling of "wait, what? This can't be right". But it is right. We've all been there, and we've all thought, "this can't possibly work". But it does. And more importantly, it's healthy. You can feel it, right down to your bones, that it's the right way to eat.

Yoghurt is OK in moderation (if it's proper yoghurt), as is sugar-free jelly. For most people, fruit will stop your weight loss dead. I would have a very careful look through the visual guides (what you can eat and what you can't) and take time to understand it before diving in. You do have to bring your carbs very, very low initially, and ramp up your fat. There's a quite specific protocol for it.

If you don't mind spending a bit of money, I can recommend "A New Atkins For a New You", by Volek and Phinney. Very good explanations, and a step-by-step guide.

if you like jelly, then sugar free jelly with a blob of real whipped cream is a low-carb option you might enjoy.

Hi Holidayweight . Welcome to lchf. I love it as a way of eating. It took me a while to adapt and to understand it's magic but it was worth striving for. Stick with it and trust the process xx
