Time of the month : I just wanted to... - Low-Carb High-Fat...
Time of the month
I’m right with you on that one!! This month is the first time I’ve had to cope with it after starting the LCHF way of eating. I thought the cravings might not appear this month. 😂😂😂 how silly was I ! ... I just decided to over eat on the good stuff, and to satisfy the NEED for some treat I’ve been having a couple of spoons of a mixture from Linwood, it’s milled flaxseed and Brazil nuts etc and I stir it into a few spoons of double cream. Surprisingly yummy and satisfying!.. hang in there!!
If it is the chocolate you are craving try 100% cocoa with cream and/or +85% Chocolate bars as they have very little sugar and other junk ingredients that are often the addictive ingredients.
If its sweet stuff youre after why not make a caulifower cheese or turnip gratin with lashings of cream? Might help? x
I can't speak from experience, but you might want to try this: first, make sure you're full. Just eat a very big (low-carb) meal, until you have no space left (people who have spent years eating inadequate calorie-counted meals have probably forgotten what this feels like). Then see how you feel about the chocolate. If it's still a necessity, google some of the low-carb chocolate treat recipes. Some of them are very low in sugar but very indulgent.
Even if you eat a whole bar of standard chocolate, if it's just a couple of days a month, it's not going to derail your weightloss completely.
Hi Zelda - I think there's a lot to be said for questioning the narratives we tell ourselves. For a long time I thought I had a deep rooted emotional and psychological need for chocolate. Of course - I don't. That was just what I was telling myself and choosing to believe. Letting those thoughts and feelings dominate kept me eating unhealthily for years. Now I acknowledge that what I eat is simply a choice. I now choose to eat foods that support my health. And I know that if I eat foods that don't support my health - there are consequences. Carb-heavy foods like chocolate do not support health - and eating them creates cravings that make it hard to get a handle on eating healthily. So perhaps it's worth noticing and questioning your underlying beliefs - because it is possible to live 'chocolate-free' - and I'm speaking as someone who was once frightened of 'a life without chocolate'... good luck x
I wish it was so simple 😂 i also have unmediated bipolar.. there seems to be a link when I’m manic I’m never full and when my hormones go crazy I’m never full and I not only lose my temper but I lose my head wanting to gauge on chocolate. I’m trying to hard but managed to do damage control. It’s not as easy as just saying it’s a choice, in a obesity video link someone sent me on here i learn why I wasn’t feeling full and why I was craving foods. It’s biochemical. Since I’ve just started my diet and I’m having teething issues which I’m sure everyone has.. the problem when I’m manic and hormonal is like a switch.. i know eating biscuits is wrong but I had a couple of ginger biscuits instead of chocolate to try and help.. it’s going to take time .. 😩😩😩
Hey Zelda - I agree with the biochemical bit - but I also believe that what we choose to eat strongly influences our biochemistry. You may have more choice than you think - all I'm suggesting is that you question your beliefs. Everyone's journey is different and starts in a different place, and some people have huge challenges to overcome along the way. For me there's simplicity to the equation 'garbage in, garbage out'. I know I can't eat chocolate and biscuits and expect my body and mind to be at their best. It is that simple. But not always easy - I wish you lots of luck on your journey. You might want to post what a typical days eating looks like for you if you're 'never full'. There may be some helpful suggestions that you could take on board x
This could be me.... Due any day now and i am beyond tired abd hungry. I ran 5 miles with a friend this morning. So allowed myself a small bowl of cheesy pasta for lunch. Was ravenous so then ate half a chicken breast in a wrap and for dinner had a bag of salted nuts.... I feel my bones are aching and bluhhhh. Really hope this passes and how silly of me to head out on that hilly run
