My Daughter is due to have the HPV vaccination, is anyone aware of a link between this vaccination and ITP. My Daughters Father has ITP and I am worried that there maybe a genetic link and having the Vaccination may set off a problem. There have been some rare cases of an onset of ITP after the vaccination. Thank you in advance.

Hi Dizz.

Personally I have not heard of this connection and neither is ITP inherited as far as the professionals are aware. The most common reason for ITP is a virus upsetting the immune system. If you have any worries, I think you should ask an expert in this field perhaps through your daughet's father. Unless anyone else can advise.

I think you have to go by your own gut instinct. dont want to influence you ,my children had all their vaccinations done,except the eldest,because she was in hospital for two years between 1 and age 3 and had measles and mumps. I hae been vaccinated numerous times for rubella,each time found to be non immune to it ,found out when expecting. when 17 year old daughter was 12 had forms for this hpv vaccination,phoned helpline,frankly was not happy with the information,the person i spoke too didnt seem very knowledgeable,daughter made her own mind up,it kept coming up every year,she researched it herself and decided it wasnt for her. now daughter with itp and masses of bruises had said form,she hasnt had it,she gets very fatigued,in a lot of pain at times,covered in lumpy bruises,platelet count not to bad,but I dont want to risk it.I am not anti vaccination,think you need to find the right person to talk too hope you get some results.

There's a risk with everything but the risk here of getting ITP is very very low. The risk of getting cervical cancer without it are higher. Even if the odds were more equal, I'd rather get ITP than cervical cancer so I'd get the vaccination.

My daughter was diagnosed with ITP last October, just 3 weeks after having the first HPV vaccination. She went on to have the second vaccination before we began to susupect that this may have been the cause of her ITP. Her consultant thought it most unlikely, but he "yellow carded it" anyway, meaning that he notified the relative authorities of her condition following the jab. Shortly after this, I had a call from the school matron to say that another child in my daughters year had also recently been diagnosed following the vaccination. This was also yellow carded and an investigation was launched into the batch No. used, though we have yet to hear the results. Surely to have two children in one school year diagnosed shortly after the vaccination was unlikely to be a coninicence?

The consultant strongly recommended that both girls went on to have the third jab. The other girl recovered quickly from her ITP and chose to go ahead with it, but nearly a year later my daughter is still suffering and we have chosen not to continue with the vaccination for her or for my younger daughter, despite my eldest having had it with no side effects.

Obviously there is a risk with every vaccination, and we chose to have all 4 of our children vaccinated against MMR, despite the bad publicity at the time, they were all fine with it and now we are glad that they have the immunity. I'ts very much a personal choice. Good luck with whatever decision you make!

Thank you to everyone that left a comment, it really did help in aiding us to make a decision.There is very little information out there on this subject. However after weighing up the information we have decided that my Daughter will have the jab. I guess it is such a personal choice and I still have concerns that we are doing the right thing.
