i have had ITP for 45 years. It has been particularly troublesome for rge last 7 years.
Has anyone noticed their count drops if they take antihistamines?
Thank you for your thoughts.

Hello, is the connection the antihistamine or the reason you’re taking the antihistamine? Essentially with allergies, the body’s immune system is on high alert so it’s working more and therefore the platelets are being attacked more. Hence the reduction if you have allergies. However, there could of course be a connection directly to the antihistamine as I am no expert!!
I occasionally have spells of runny nose and sneezing, feel ok otherwise. I take an antihistamine for a few days and it sorts it out. I get a platelet count blood test for my ITP every 3 months so it would be very difficult to tell if a rise or fall in my platelets was linked to antihistamines. My last test about 4 weeks ago was the highest count I have had for a couple of years and I would have taken some antihistamines in the weeks prior. I have similarly had a drop in my platelets in other tests and would have had antihistamines in the weeks prior. So I have no evidence that antihistamines have any effect of my platelets .
I have hay fever (as well as ITP) and I take antihistamines (loratadine) for the majority of the year. I haven't noticed any change in platelet levels during the couple of months when I don't take the antihistamines, so I assume there's no/minimal interaction.
