Hi everyone... I just came across this site and quickly joined the group. I've been diagnosed with ITP since '95. My doctor usually have me prednisone when my count was low and that would fix it. I just read though that stress can cause levels to drop. I have recently been through a lot of stress. Has anyone found stress triggered their levels to drop. I'm thinking my levels might be low and am making an appointment to have them checked.

ITP and stress???
It does affect my count as well. The more stressed out I am the worse I feel. I meditate it helps immensely
I was stressed to the max for 6 weeks earlier in the year, and suddenly I'm breaking out in a rash and being told to rush to the emergency room at hospital. That was when I was diagnosed with ITP. I have voiced this to my GP and hematologist, and they were reluctant to say yes. But I feel it was a bit too much of a coincidence, and in my mind at least the 2 are related. I will certainly be on the lookout for more 'rashes' during any more prolonged stressful times that will inevitably appear from time to time in life.
The problem is that we really don't know for sure whether or not stress brings on ITP.
I personally think that it is a factor, and things like a bereavement, divorce, separation and any number of other stressful life events can impact the platelet count.
Sadly there just isn't any actual research or evidence to back up this assertion but yes from my point of view I think that stress must have an impact.
