Feeling chilly, even in warm weather?

Does anyone else with ITP feel the cold, especially cold hands and feet (and cold knees!) despite the weather being quite warm? I'd be grateful to know whether it's a common phenomenon in ITP, or whether it's just me 🙄

I have been feeling a bit chilly but not noticing it in hands and feet. It’s when I go outside in lighter clothes, and bare legs especially

Thank-you for replying. I always seem to need an extra layer (often plus gloves) compared to my husband!

Hello itplassne...

Yes I am someone who always seems to feel colder than everyone else, even when the weather is warm. I also always feel tired/fatigued when my platelets are low or dropping which seems to be quite a common trait with us ITP folk.

I conducted a poll here on Healthunlocked some years ago about the very subject of feeling cold and thought you may be interested to see details of the responses that I got.

The following link will take you to the poll and the various comments...

Thank-you for replying, and for the link to your survey and people's comments. It's comforting that I'm not alone in feeling the cold with ITP. 🙂

I understand that hypothyroidism (another autoimmune disease) is often associated with ITP, as it does with me. Cold extremities are a symptom of hypothyroidism.

I also suffer from Raynaud;s and cold agglutinin disease so I really feel the cold!

Thank-you for your reply. It sounds as though I have nothing to complain about, in comparison to your problems. I hope you find some treatment to help you.

I am always much chillier than friends, especially now, visiting at a distance in back yards. And I always wear socks to bed. Cold hands (warm heart), cold feet.

Thanks everyone for this enlightening thread

Thank-you for replying. I find I need bedsocks almost all year, and have recently started wearing wrist warmers at night too. Hooray for the inventor of the hot water bottle (to combat cold knees)!

I wear wrist braces. I hadn’t thought but that obviously keeps my wrists warm. Bad knews about the knees. I can’t wait.
