Hi Jimmy I the U.K. they don’t usually treat anybody that’s count is under 30 they just monitor it and there is no cure so knowing sooner would not of helped

Not sure I understand how learning sooner would have helped? Has having a count of under 90k stopped you doing anything or were you able to carry on with a normal life? NickyD

I agree with the other two comments in that there is no treatment which could have been started earlier and lead to success. Although 120 + would be considered the normal range, it is common that people, particularly teens, go through stages where their platelet count drops and returns to the normal range without medical intervention. Thus the monitoring. I suggest that you consider yourself well cared for in that about 30 years ago, splenectomy was thought to be a standard cure. But now parameters are know that preclude splenectomy. Can I sue for a spleen removed when it should not have been done? Some doctors continued removing spleen after the facts were known.

Hi Jimmy, 90 is not a 'low' count, whilst it is slightly below the low end of the platelet parameters it is a perfectly reasonable level.

What 'early treatment' were you thinking about? There is no cure!!!

In the UK specialist haematologists will rarely provide any treatment without either bleeding symptoms or counts below 20 - 30

bruiser my count is in the 30s .. what I said was 14 years ago at 90k and declining they never diagnosed me till last year at 15k .. just wish I would have know then .. they should never have told me that 60 / 70 was normal for me .. jimmy .. merry xmas !!

I think it is a blessing that you did not know:) you did not need to think about "what ifs" for 14 years. As many said treatment is for below 20-30. Otherwise, you would have additional blood draws, many once a year. I know some people who are ok with 10 without treatment. (The are ok, but I do not think doctors agree:) ) I understand why you might be upset, but look at it from the different perspective. Also there were not as many treatments available as now. So, right timing for you to get a treatment now, not earlier. Maybe change a doctor if you do not have any more trips in her/him. Good luck with your treatment. And Merry Christmas to you too!
