Hi everyone, I have recently been put on 100mg of sertraline but noticed more bruising than normal. Has anyone heard of problems with this medication and platelet count?
Thanks Jonathan

If you read about side effects then I think you are right to be concerned and should speak to your doctor.
If you read the leaflets with Sertraline it does say to avoid if you have any bleeding disorders. I questioned this with my gp who told me it was fine. However, when i spoke to my Haematologists he advised me to stop taking it immediately. He told me that many people are referred to Haematology with low platelets but found not to have ITP but had been prescribed Setraline and once the medication was stopped the platelets returned to normal. Hope this helps
I have checked a few sources and no where does it say that the extra bruising could be a result of this medication. I have found through friends and myself it was not an effective treatment for the anxiety/depression. DO NOT just stop it. Talk with dr if you wish to change or reduce your dose. When these meds are stopped suddenly you face real difficulties. Always talk with your dr. If you dont feel you are being listened to find one that does. It is vital to have good communication with your medical staff.
I like to stress the danger of stopping suddenly as people dont always realise the potential. Glad to hear you're one of the smart ones. A good doctor osbhslf the battle. Best wishes.
