Traveling by flight is it safe
I'd be afraid to
It would be a really good idea to check with your Hematologist first instead of posing your question on this forum. I'm surprised that you are not in a hospital being treated to bring up your levels. Of course I'm located in the USA and here you would be getting treatment.
Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery.
I flew with about that withour even knowing!
I recently flew a 2-hr flight with only 3,000. I did not know my platelets were so low. Yes, I am on treatment but obviously my platelets decided to bomb anyway for no known reason. Typical of this disease and me. I went in the next morning for an infusion. My doctor didn't seem that upset and has told me before that it is o'kay with 20,000. I, personally, prefer 50,000 when flying. Too afraid of bleeding while on the plane. Honestly, I would never knowingly fly with only 6,000. Ask your doctor. What could be devastating to one person may have little effect on another.
I have flown many times with a count of 30 or 35. That said, it seems that each person is different and so is each hematoligist. My doctor will not treat above 30. I think that is because some people have more active platelets than others. Hospitalized treatment at 60 should not be taken as a general rule. Microscopic examination of the platelets will tell a doctor the age and activity level of the platelets.
6 or 60? I would not travel at 6.
I would have assumed the issue would be with a pressurized cabin and a count below 10 would be inadvisable but take advice from your haematologist.
